Let's say these two don't fight each other and continue beating up the rest of the pack at welterweight even though any decent challenges are pretty much gone now.

How can somebody else take their place at the top of the list?

For Pac and Mayweather, apart from each other or stepping up to fight Martinez they will have to share the following fighters from around their weigh division:
From the three weight divisions around them here are the best:- Amir Khan, Tim Bradley, Andre Berto, Canelo Alvarez, Chavez Jnr, Mike Jones, Selcuk Aydin, Viacheslav Senchenko, Paul Williams, Erislandy Lara and Alfredo Angulo, Marcos Maidana, Devon Alexander and Lucas Matthysee.

So lets say 5-6 fights in the next 3 years, can anyone put a better run of fights together to dethrone them.

Here's some run's I think could challenge them (obviously presuming they win them all):

Nonito Donaire - Navarees, Agbeko/Mares winner,Arce, Nishioka, Rigondeux, Gamboa

Yuriorkis Gamboa - John, Salido II, Lopez, Donaire, Magdelano, Broner

Carl Froch/Andre Ward - Ward/Froch, Bute, Kessler II, BHop, Cloud

Defo think the froch/ward option could defo dethrone them, but it all depends on who pac and may are fighting in the mean time...

Pac could fight, Marquez, Bradley, Berto, Martinez,

May could fight, Khan, Maidana, Martinez, Alverez.

Pacquiao has always been P4P 1. The moment Floyd Mayweather retired, he was excluded from all lists.

even if he hadn't retired, Pac would've dethroned him.

Mayweather is the best fighter in the world thats why he is pfp #1 this is not hard to understand he will have it until he hangs up the gloves or becomes less of a technician. Only person really taking it away is Ward if he gts much much much better.

The pound for pound list is meant to be the boxer who is winning the best and hardest fights at the time. Now Pacquaio and Mayweather are at the top because they have beaten everybody and are the best. i have no problems with this as I doubt anyone has done.

Problem is between them they have pretty much cleaned out the division and without fighting each other or Martinez they stand levels above everybody else in and around their weight.

Now, if they plan on skipping the fights between themselves and Martinez then their level on competition goes down resulting in them not getting as much credit for the wins (not because they aren't the best but because their opponents aren't up to P4P status)

If in that time another boxer goes on a run beating the best boxers in and around their weight division who are higher ranked than the ones in Pac's and Mayweathers division then they deserve to elevate above them.

if not then we should stick Wlad and Vitali in right at the top because they haven't been beat for years and have beat everyone in their division up.

    First lets look at ability

Who has the ability to hang with Pacquiao and Mayweather as the new potential P4P #1 fighter in the world , for me its only Donaire , does Donaire have the opponents to acheive this , well he does , but there all in higher weight classes

By which time (based on your theory) Floyd and Pacquiao would of dealt with some pretty capable guys in and around there own weight :

Khan , Bradley , Ortiz , Berto , Canelo etc etc etc

So when you look at the lack of exposure the smaller guys are getting , and pitting resumes , whilst active nobody is capable of de throning either guy as even the #2 P4P ranked fighter in the world

Once these guys hang em up , Donaire is the obvious choice as air to the throne , but he is still un tested

Yeah but if they don't fight each other you have to divide those names by two so it could end up more like

Pac: Bradley, Jones, Chavez, Maidana, Brook, Aydin

Mayweather: Khan, Berto, Canelo, Angulo, Lara,

which aren't bad names and of course some of those names would drop out whilst other names move into the top 15 in that time but if say Donaire goes on a run like the above and beats them all over that three year time period there would be a case for Donaire beating better competition.

Obviously, its going to be a monstrous task to dethrone these two as they are head and shoulders above everybody else at the minute but they are quickly running out of tough challenges. Not their fault but true.

And remember that's me picking the best fights for everyone, theirs always a chance Arum and GB throw some shitty fights in the mix also
