I agree boxing is as much mental as it is physical and we have the ability to develop both aspects so I think that mental abilities can be developed the same as physical abilities. On the other hand I also think that people have innate mental traits just as we have different innate physical traits either way we can always work on things and improve these. If your cocky just to put your opponent off I think it's ok but if you genuinely believe it I don't think it's a good thing.

Meditation helps. (Some boxers of faith get a similar advantage without needing to meditate, still best to meditate tho)

Visualization, Positive thinking, Enhancing positive Belief systems, Objective thinking, outcome based thinking. Placing your ego/pride in mental toughness. Focussing only on what you control, (ideally you shouldn't be thinking much during a fight otherwise you are not in real time)

Hell Ali even hired a hypnotist to assist him. Allegedly

A tip of the hat, or from my side of the country a tip of the sombrero, some good points for a coach to consider. I guess you can build it up somewhat over time as you gain confidence in what you can do, but as Virus says about Floyd, ATG's like Ali had it to, that "I can't be beat" attitude". You have to have total belief in yourself. Thanks all:thumbsup

Not just belief in yourself, but belief in the team around you. Look at a boxer like Wlad; for years I don't think he ever had real belief in himself, but rather belief in Manny Steward.
