Looking at the furor from American fans about the fact that HBO seems to have really done the American boxing public wrong by not televising the WKlit/Povetkin fight...

By playing Devil's Advocate do you guys think there is any "defensive" reason why HBO would choose to NOT show the fight rather than to show it? Does it in some way "hurt" boxing and the HBO brand? Is there a method to their madness?

    Your thoughts?

(IMHO a televised fight is a "good fight" but I am not running HBO either.)

They must do **** ratings for Klit, otherwise it would be on. I would say he can range anywhere from boring to having me fliping channels or nodding off.

To be more specific MOST Klit fights hurt american boxing. Everywhere else they both do very well but here, in the states, after so many boring fights on American TV nobody gives a **** about them or the division anymore

I don't understand why the brothers need HBO... they make so much money in Germany etc etc. I find there fights extremely boring and i can't imagine the person who is on the edge of there seat during a Wlad fight... unless he is being KO'd.

Wlad - Peter and Vitali - Arreola were the BEST or SECOND best ratings HBO had in the respective 48 month periods.

In times when boxing is losing popularity, KlitschKOs have been doing a good job in promoting it. What HBO is doing will have a negative impact in long term. You cannot ban the best fighters in the world and think that you will make money out of it.

Read what Greenburg said. He doesn't have a problem with the Klitschkos as such, but he doesn't like those 5pm EST tape delays from Europe. His problem is that it is financially much more attractive for the brothers to fight over in Europe instead of in the US (which is like 4-5am CET in Europe).

Personally, I think HBO are missing the boat in a huge way.

Here boxing finally has someone with the ability (and who will if given the opportunity) unify the titles and take on the best available. On top of that, the guy is intelligent, articulate, educated and a terrific athelete and sportsman. Oh, and his brother is also world champion..which has been their dream since they were kids.

HBO should be making a multi-part series on that story and marketing these fights all over the place!

As an American, I can tell you Americans will support anything that the media tells them is awesome; quality doesn't matter. That is why we have Jersey Shore, Barak Obama and chain resturants all over the place.

Boxing is in no condition to be selectively represented, every championship fight at the top level should be promoted and displayed to as many people as possible to keep creating future boxing fans and keep the sporting relevant.

I guess picking up Ruiz's fights made more sense than picking up either Klitschkos fights?

Both Wladimir and Vitali are among the most dominant champions in many, many years.. how are they hurting boxing by doing what any sane man would do, which is dominate by any means necessary?

Yet they show mayweather fights.... I think it has more to do with gbp ifthey were part promoters Hbo would be falling all over themselves to show them.

such defensive , afraid to be hit type fights going on far longer than they should, also leaning all over your opponents back to avoid any in fighting, this is not clinching#

add o the fact he has vast amounts of speed, power size weight and experience over everyone makes it a snore fest, thats their thinking I presume , Stewards too

The Klitschkos are very good for boxing. They make this sport popular.
