To be fair if Haney didn't have a huge belt what's he going to use to hold his clown trousers up?

But you`re missing the point, he can`t even fight at 140 anymore.

That looks suspiciously like alcohol in front of him that the devout Muslim, Haney, definitely doesn't drink.

It's not alcohol, it's uh apple juice mixed with fizzy water.

Haney definitely studies the Quran cover to cover every night. Yes sir.

Remember, Duran lost a non title fight when he was champ vs Dejesus, and of coarse he was still lightweight champ. I'm sure Haney would be willing to give Garcia a shot at the title if Garcia makes the weight. If Garcia doesn't make the weight the 2nd time around, cancel the fight and fight a substitute like Corrales did in his 3rd fight with Castillo. Garcia will get exposed for actually being a the welterweight he is.

He proved that he is better if he don't have to lose the last 3 lbs when Haney is required to do so, just like Castillo proved he was better than Corrales under the same circumstances. When both Castillo and Corrales had to make the weight, Corrales won. If Garcia wants to really prove something he will challenge Haney for the belt and make the weight.

I was half joking.... although, I'm sure there definitely was alcohol on that table and who knows how devout some people really are?

There are Muslims who don't abide by every single rule.

He obviously would've preferred the belt, yes. What I'm saying is that the night itself is 10x more valuable than the belt. The belt would be a perk but he wouldn't trade destroying Haney for being undisputed against a no-name opponent. Ryan will get a belt one day I'm sure and he can live that dream, but for now he's accomplished something much bigger.

I actually referenced the Duran-Dejesus non title fight recently in another thread when highlighting why it was justified that Haney keep his title after the Garcia fight.

A very simple concept, within the current rules, though it seems quite a few either didn’t/don’t understand it or have chosen to reject it.

However, if we’re taking true size vs weight drained size, Haney himself fights at a much higher weight by the time he does ultimately get in the ring - a 25 lb recapture from weigh in to fight time is huge = a MW +

In spirit, boxing is about fighters of reasonably equal size/weight competing against one another - not about who can drain and regain with the least detrimental effects.

No title on the line but Garcia did beat Haney at equal weight - in fact, Haney probably still had at least 5 lbs on Garcia.

I guess we could wonder if Haney might’ve be stronger if he himself didn’t drain in the first instance - but he does seem to have the drain and regain game down pat.

His last opponent before Garcia even wondered if Haney didn’t use an IV (illegal) to fully and safely rehydrate for their fight.

I'm not sure where this 165 lb Haney number came from, i doubt its true. Garcia looked like the bigger stronger fighter in there. I think Haney might come in at 155lbs and Garcia was probably about 160lbs. Haney has nothing to be ashamed of, he stayed focused and won 8 rounds in my book, and without a doubt he is still WBC 140 lb champ. If Garcia feels up to the task Haney might give him another crack at the 140lb title, but if i was Haney, i wouldnt because Ryan can't be trusted to do the right thing and make the weight.

No confirmed “in ring” weights for Haney vs Garcia as yet, as I understand it. The recording “on the night” weights might vary from commission to another - some might, some might not.

Anyway, this is Haney’s “event” weight vs his official “weigh in” weight for his fight just prior to Garcia. Tbh, if I hadn’t seen it recorded I might’ve doubted a 25 lb gain also - but there it is.

Usyk, a much naturally bigger man, didn’t even come close to putting the same weight back on when fighting as a CW.

Haney basically put on near enough to 1/5th of his weight again after the official weigh in for his 2nd last fight - so a MW +.

Ok, well at least i know where that number came from. It might be incorrect, or he might have been fully clothed, or maybe he really does cut and gain that much. Either way, Garcia needs to make the agreed upon weight. Thanks for link though.

It's a pity Garcia didn't make the weight. Those 3 lbs meant nothing of course, he would have beaten Haney to a pulp all the same.
