Why? If somebody has no power he can't crack an egg. If somebody hasn't enough power to hurt me he can still have some power against other guys, just not against me.

Linares looked very awkward when Haney quizzed him about his power in the dressing room. He didn't want to lie to him but he also didn't want to hurt his feelings either.

The proof is in the pudding though. Both Linares and Gamboa were 35 soon to be 36 and 39 respectively and he couldn't even wobble them despite being way bigger, younger, and fresher than them and them both being considered chinny even in their primes.

Because he told Haney he had power

No way on God's green earth Linares gets a rematch. He was supposed to be the old dog that gets swallowed by the young lion. Sure, Haney beat him clearly, but the last two rounds were brutal to watch if you are team Haney. Getting hurt and outworked by a greatly diminished fighter is something Haney wont hear the end of.

Also, Haney has no power. Linares isn't would I would call Iron-chinned. When someone like Linares says you can't crack, there is a problem. Linares did compliment his speed though.

He probably did that because he was in his locker room, surrounded by his team and didn't want to hurt his feelings and all that stuff. Linares also not speaking perfect English so he probably wasn't able to express himself like he really wanted.

Well...Haney has SOME power. He one shot ko'd Moran who is pretty durable and has a very good chin. But he hasn't enough power to really make it a factor against better opposition.

The power thing is an endless debate.

Worryingly it's not just the oldies that Haney hasn't been stopping.

Both Alfredo Santiago and Xolisani Ndongeni have gone on to be stopped since facing Haney, Ndongeni being KTFO'd by a damn journeyman.

You also have guys like Menard being taken out in a round by Lopez (took Haney 9), Sempewo took Haney 5 after being stopped in 1 in his two previous fights (he has been stopped in 5 in his 2 subsequent fights as well). It's a pattern occurring here.

I'd gladly watch him fight again but he's close to the end now, hope he gets a good last pay day & leaves with his health in tact.. he's been a joy to watch.. he was noted for his punching speed & accuracy but it's definitely waining

But he also might have been stopped. Haney was in survival mode. If I were in Linares' corner I would have been screaming "take the points!" If I were in Haney's corner I would have been screaming "nice work, champ!" It all depends on your perspective.

    Yeah,
He will live to “fight” & look sensational against hand picked bums from this point out.

& will likely duck every decent opponent who calls him out.

his hometown fans were letting their disapproval be heard.

Haney is going to be a pain for everyone in the division as long as we can make weight, because he's actually quite strong in addition to his speed and skills.

But I agree with the general belief that his apparent lack of power likely will cost him against the elites. It's one thing to be an average puncher and another to be feather-fisted, and he appears to be the latter. In his defense, he could fight more intelligently than he did last night and make his life a little easier. It won't be exciting, but he'll have more success as a stick and move guy than someone who sets his feet. He just doesn't hit hard enough.

Haney is the new Paulie? Great boxer and speed but can’t crack an egg. Will go on to have a good career but will never be the top guy.
