If the fight went Loma way I wouldn't have been surprised and it wouldn't have been a robbery. I personally had it a draw but anyone who is adamant that either fighter won, then I would suggest that it's wishful thinking. There was no clear winner

    I think you're wrong.

I scored it 7-5 for Loma, but I mentioned 6-6, as being within the realm of possibility.

And I even suggested the judges might see it 7-5 for Haney.

But watching it again, my original score of 115-113 for Loma was the one I have to stick with.

Giving every close round to Haney, you can get to a draw.

I can't see a 7-5 for Haney and there is DEFINITELY no path to 116-112 for Haney, any more than there was even a remote possibility of 118-110 for Canelo in his first bout with GGG, as Adelaide Byrd scored it.
And yet, Ms Byrd continued judging for five years after that travesty, "judging" another 122 bouts.

    No accountability.
A Boxing judge ****s up, and rarely faces consequences.

If this was the first time a Euro fighter got shafted by THREE US JUDGES in an international bout, maybe it could be considered an anomaly.

But given what happened with Ward- Kov and GGG -Canelo among others, there is a clear problem with the judging, especially in major bouts with a lot at stake.

Is there blatant corruption that involves pay-offs ?

Probably once in a rare while, but not very much.

Does that mean that the judging is fair ?

    Definitely NOT.

You don't need to get together in a room to participate in a conspiracy.

The industry has a favourite in most big bouts...a name who has a future, a $$$-generating future.
    And this influences the judging.

All you need to do to play the game, if you're a judge, is score every close round for the 'favourite.'

Every once in a while, one of them ****s up so egregiously that they have to resign (very rare), like CJ Ross when she scored a near shut-out as a draw in the Floyd-Canelo fight. (Same twit scored for Bradley over Pac, another near shutdown-out).

It wasn't the worst decision I've ever seen but it was the WRONG decision in a very important fight.

If not a robbery, then definitely a gift.

I had the fight a draw but I didn't have Haney winning.

The first round I gave to Haney but was so close it could have gone either way. If that goes the other way then it would be a win for Loma.

Maybe it is corruption but in a close fight it was difficult to be definitive. For that reason I can't see a robbery but a gift is a good way of putting it.

    For the sake of posterity...

Switch the 4th and the 6th and you get my scorecard. Still winds up being 114-114. There were at least three rounds that could have been scored 10-10, probably more. I think under a system that encouraged even rounds, Loma might have gotten the cards. Then again, Haney was landing at a pretty high clip with the right hand even in rounds where I had Loma ahead, so that's not a guaruntee.

Either way, given the reservations he's had about scorecards in the past Loma's only got himself to blame for not accelerating in the 12th and letting Haney right the ship following a harrowing penultimate round. That cost him the decision on my card and ensured another loss on his record.

Pretty great fight, though. Would be down for a rematch, if it could be made.

I think you can get to seven for Haney without that much difficulty, especially if you award Haney the first. He had a pretty solid case for being up 4-2 after the first half. Seventh I thought was a pretty clear Haney round and he was very competitive in the next two as well. Plus, Loma took the foot off the pedal in the 12th.

My acceptable range would be Haney 115-113 to Loma 116-112. Debateable decision? For sure. Not really any stronger adjective to use to describe this fight, though, imo.

Ok after a re-watch of the fight i scored it 115-113 Devin Haney. @ellerbe

    Haney vs Loma
    1) 10-9 Haney (Close) could swing to Loma
    2) 10-9 Haney
    3) 9-10 Loma
    4)10-9 Haney
    5)10-9 Haney
    6) 9-10 Loma
    7) 10-9 Haney
    8) 10-9 Haney (close)
    9) 9-10 Loma
    10) 9-10 Loma
    11) 9-10 Loma
    12) 10-9 Haney (close)

The first and 12th rounds were clear swing rounds that could have been scored to either fighter, but i feel Haney won the first with good body shots, and i feel he won the 12th with more of the same. I can honestly see a draw here, but fair scores are 115-113 either way, or a Draw imo. I dont see an issue with anyone having loma winning by 2 rounds. Great fight though.

100%, this is the fight for underlining how older scoring methods were the superior. I can't believe that there's no system of scoring imaginable that awards the rounds one of three ways and finds an extra point for a KD  There are loads.

The problems that 10 point must solved are eradicated by the forty year obsession with avoiding even rounds to avoid draws (Which doesn't even work and shouldn't be a thing in the first place). Let judges score even rounds even. It's apparent that Loma would have edged the fight most times under such conditions. As it is, it is apparent that any very close scorecard is okay. I'd add that I think 115-113 Loma and 114-114 are the best scorecards, with a lean towards 115-113 Loma.

Yeah, I think there's a bit more room to provide to Loma in terms of awarding some of the swing rounds, which is why I say 115-113 Haney to 116-112 Loma feels like the acceptable range.

But, I definitely can see at least a couple of paths where you can get to seven for Haney. Even if I revert to old school scoring, I wouldn't be that surprised if I end up scoring the fight a draw again upon review. It was that kind of boxing match. It was indeed the kind of match where scoring an even round would have been appropriate, so I agree that it's something that should be revisited.

Anyway, debatable result but certainly no robbery.

    Great fight.

    Let's see it again.

Still not much getting said beyond the day.

Yeah, you can 100% find seven rounds for Haney without being weird about it. There are only three rounds that cannot under any circumstances be awarded to Haney. Haney arguably has zero locked-up rounds which is why the tied rounds thing would have helped Loma so much.

Yeah this. If it's a clear round, give it 10-8, if it's a close round give it 10-9. Plus more 10-10s as you say. That would immediately solve half the problems. The fact that you can win 6 rounds by landing 1 more soft punch and the other 6 get dominated and somehow it's an even fight is beyond dumb to me.

I agree! Well said Shakur! And if haney REALLY has any courage… he’ll agree to everything being on A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. :) Let’s see if he does that.

No bull**** 36 hour rehydration. No judges with histories of bugs decisions! No waiting until Loma is two years older before granting him that rematch! Be like Apollo in Rocky 2 and Do It Right Away.

“I’m gonna make an example of this man in front of his home crowd! I’m gonna drop him like a bad habit!”

:) But we know haney won’t do that. Boxers like haney in reality they don’t really operate that way. He won’t even so much as agree to a rematch on neutral ground. Saudi’s would LOVE to host that fight.

Didn't Haney now claim he is pound for pound number one or something?

I believe they are going the Mayweather route with him being the villain to draw the crowd. Nobody can be this delusional.
