Prime Holmes would beat any version of Norton though it wouldn’t be easy and maybe also any 70s heavyweights.
Amen. I think outside a few rds this fight is highly overrated. Easy fight to score and a clear win for Holmes.
Even tho I don't believe it, would that necessarily be a bad thing seeing that Prime Norton beat a pretty Prime Ali, Holmes' stylistic antecedent?
Norton doesn't do quite as good job as usual cutting the ring off. And he's slower over all than he was at his best. He's pretty good at suckering Holmes on to that overhand right, though.
Lol 70s Ali beats holmes A past prime ken gave larry eeverything he could handle so i have no problem to believe that a peak ken in 1974 would improve itm. Prime norton beats holmes Joe frazier would **** the ass of holmes until he loves it Foreman is a toss up Lyle, young, quarry all tough fights for holmes. So no. Holmes is not even in the top 3 in the early70s
Overrated? That fight was 40 years ago this summer. How many heavyweight title fights had as much sustained action in the 40 years since then? I just watched the 15th round again. I counted more than 170 punches thrown in total IN THE 15th round alone. They were often throwing shots at the same time. Just non-stop action. If anything, it's underrated. Hell, if you took two heavyweights who could punch like Holmes and Norton and they launched a combined 170 punches in a round, 99.9 percent of the time, on any other occasion, one or both of them goes down (more than once). Holmes and Norton did that round after round after round for an hour. Brilliant stuff by both guys. Two very evenly matched heavyweights on that night. One of the best heavyweight title fights in history. Just sustained hard punching from both for 15 rounds.
Ali won 10 rounds against Frazier in the Thrilla in Manila. Frazier won 10 rounds against Ali in the Fight of the Century. Were those snooze fests, too? Who cares about the score. The fights were great.
Holmes won 8-7. Great and very close fight. Norton took best Holmes' and Ali's punches and never went down in 54 total rounds against these men.
He was extremely consistent with this that's for sure. Last time i read it was the left bicep but it seems that's changed. Fantastic fight and one i had Holmes winning by about 8-7. Norton's plan of starting slow and saving energy based around the expectation Holmes would tire backfired. Holmes had superb stamina (and heart) as Kenny and everyone else found out.
