I think this guy is the real deal, and I'm amazed at the lack of threads talking about his next fight. Urango is a great test for him at this stage in his career.
Urango is a perfect litmus test for him right now...how Alexander handles that fight will tell me a good deal, so I'm waiting until afterward to really make an opinion on him. I'm looking forward to seeing how that one turns out. If Alexander wins, I expect to see Alexander-Berto made shortly after so Andre can continue his quest of clearing out the 140 pounders.
I see Devon at best just being a belt holder but so far he has just beat a shot Witter so lets give him a chance and see how he fairs with a guy like Bradley or Khan.
IMO Devon is the real deal, however you gotta wonder if this unification is coming a bit too early. Don King just didn't spend enough time to build him up properly, matching him vs. all levels and styles before taking on the top, so there are still some question marks. Witter was a huge risk last year and Devon did just fine, so like most of you guys, I expect Alexander to come out on top in this fight as well. However, Urango is a kind of physical force Deven has never seen before: solidly built, extremely strong, ready to apply pressure for 12, and actually pretty effective when he can set the pace, he uses his abilities quite well. Ngoudjo is a smart, solid boxer, but could not stop Urango coming forward, and was on the defensive all night, getting tagged even through the gloves. Hatton fought him as an experienced P4P-er, Berto had a big height and reach advantage at 147, and still they rather held than to answer a punch with a punch. It is a question mark whether Alexander at 140 has the strength and inside skills to effectively tie Juan up, or the kind of movement and timing to frustrate Urango all night. And even if he can frustrate Urango, he'll never stop coming. Dude got up from a Bailey knockdown damnit! He's one tough nut to crack! But even though I was one of the few who actually picked Alexander to beat Witter, Devon impressed the hell out of me, so I think he'll once again raise his game and put his boxing on the next level. I think he's the sleeper of the action packed 140 divison, and I definitely think he has great potential. But it is a huge test. Don't forget he's as young as Khan and they have no intentions matching Amir this tough.
Ya, to soon to tell If he win's easy saturday he most likely fight Bradley next then we can stat talking how far he will go.
I have to disagree with you and I am going to tell you why. Alexander has great skills but when you fight a great brawler, all your discipline can vanish, Urango puts a lot of pressure but just for a few seconds, if you watch alexander compared to lamont peterson is the same style and watch peterson vs bradley and you way get to a conclusion. thats my opinion
I'm VERY impressed with Alexander. Most boxer-type of fighters like him would box safely to a decision against a strong, bull like opponent like Urango. But Alexander took a lot of risks, threw great uppercuts and knocked him out. I thought Urango was knockout-proof... Alexander proved me wrong.
No1 at 140 right now, beat Witter better than Bradley (not because of the stoppage but the way he outboxed and hurt him), and KTFO of Urango to uinify at 23years of age. Thats awesome and he looks to have some mighty impressive ability with his skills and speed Once we get a winner from Alexander-Bradley-Valero-Khan mini tourny we have a great in the making, and I fancy it to be Alexander despite liking and thinking allot of the other 3
