I do think Kotelnik is underrated, yeah, but Alexander should have been a disaster for him, just like Khan was. He's not very fast, can't punch hard and isn't flashy but he will apply good, constant pressure and that will be enough against some elite fighters. However, you can beat him with the right style and skills. Alexander has the right style, like Khan, but unlike Khan, he lacks the skills. Kotelnik is a definite top 5 light welter though. I'd like to see him against Ortiz.
Ughh, another over-reactive thread on a decently hyped up fighter, mostly deserving. Just cuz he got matched up against a style bad against him doesnt mean the end of the earth for him, or that he was all just hype. Wasnt Kotelnik a titleholder before? Ya think his opponent just MAY have some credible ability though he was favored 9 to 1, mostly because Kotelnik wasnt homebred, as well known, and lost to a couple top tier opponents? Maybe he also had a fight of his life? And yet, Alexander still pulled out a close victory... This was a case of Alexander being a bit over-hyped because of national favoritism, and even more so Kotelnik under-estimated. When this is the case, its funny to see the commentators flipflop on the fighters cuz they feel betrayed and suckered by the hype they bought into... Its alright to favor someone, and to draw your hopes on them. But NEVER underestimate an opponent...

I made this thread when people were claiming Alexander was the best at 140 and a future P4Per. I didn't make this recently. And Kotelnik should have been perfect for Alexander. He wasn't at a styles advantage, which is why he was chosen in the first place. He isn't an awkward fight for Alexander, who should have had an easy nights work, like Khan did. Bradley and Maidana are much more likely to struggle than Khan and Alexander, of the 'big four', and we saw than Khan had an easy night, Maidana predictably lost and Alexander had a stinker despite the styles advantage. I think Bradley would have a tough night but ultimately win. The point being? Styles make fights and the styles make it an easier night than it was for Alexander. No way can you say he had a stylistical disadvantage.

Devon defence sucks so its no surprise he got lit up last night.his accuracy with his punches is not all that especially the jab it just hit gloves. which losing some of conditioning cause wasting to many punches. you can see most of this stuff in his last fight. khan vs alexander sounds interesting.... he'll get my respect if he beats Khan convincingly but right now i do agree he's a little bit overrated
Talk about overrated. Its amazing how people mention Maidana as if hes worth something. Alexander, Khan, Bradley would box this guys head off. Maidana is a limited fighter who beat a very raw, inexperienced, untested Ortiz. Ortiz would beat him if they fought again. Maidana can PUNCH. No disputing that. He can punch with both hands. But hes there to be hit and make no mistake about it, against the best at 140, he'd get hit ALOT.
I tend to agree. I don't think Witter was ever a top class fighter and the talk of Hatton supposedly ducking him was way off. The fight never happened because of Frank Warren but Hatton would have mauled him. That said, Bradley beat a good version. Alexander beat a version at the very end of his career and, one of Witter's faults, without determination.

Most of that is true but Maidana is good at dragging guys into a fight. He's there to be hit and he will allow 2 to land 1. The question is, can any of the other fighters beat him at that fight? Neither Khan, Bradley or Alexander hit hard enough to stop him. He probably hits hard enough to stop all three. Bradley likes a fight, so would get stuck in. Alexander isn't good enough to avoid getting into a tear up and Khan has a warriors mentality, which wouldn't serve him well. I think he can beat all 3.
