Pavlik is a great example. He didn't get a real push and P4P ranking until after he knocked out Miranda and Jermain Taylor (who had a top 5 P4P ranking at the time) as the underdog in both fights. Had it been Miranda knocking out Pavlik and Taylor, that would've been Edison's ranking- he was viewed as the more marketable fighter at the time and had the bigger push. Also of note: Pavlik's rematch with Taylor got put on PPV and did 250k buys, while the Hopkins fight did 195k. Combined, that was still less than the Roy Jones- Trinidad PPV (500k). If there was this huge pent up demand for white American fighters, Pavlik's numbers would've been significantly higher because a ton of marketable angles were there- prestige division, knockout puncher, won the title in a FOTY caliber scrap, unbeaten record, etc. At the end of it, I think it's a case where Pavlik unfairly gets slapped with the label considering he didn't get widespread merit until after his achievements warranted it
But then again, it was Lomas second fight. And Salido was a known spoiler. He derailed plenty of careers and gave everyone a though night. Even Mikey, who mopped the floor with Saldio, had it really though in the later rounds. You are letting one bad night define his entire career. Plenty of great fighters struggled early into their pro careers.
Boring is subjective bums don't get to be two division weight champs. If he's a bum then there's 90% of fighters who would love to have his career.
I immediately thought of Urango. That uppercut was vicious! But that was his last KO win. Since that time he has only stopped 1 guy and that was a mid round corner retirement. 1 KO since 2010 Wtf? I forgot how **** his punch technique was. Boy did he love to throw arm punches and slaps.
Well, his resume is pretty **** for a two weight champ. And lets not forget that he beat Randall Bailey for that belt. Bailey who was already past it(gunshy). And that was a horrible "fight". And besides that who did he beat? Maidana, Urango, Kotelnik and Witter. Maidana looked like **** that night and he had poorly prepared for that night. Poor excuse and it´s not Devons fault, but it is what it is. Kotelnik got robbed. Urango was good but he was far from anything special. And the there is Witter. Witter was a heck of a fighter in his prime. But he injured his hand early against Devon. Again, not Devons fault. All in all, a **** resume for a two weight champ. He had some solid performances but a ton more boring fights.
Well boxing is a sport of many weight divisions and many world champions. I never rated him at all and had he been in a stronger division he'd have never have been nowhere near world titles. Not that he did much at world level anyway. Plus he's a racist pos
Remember the utter highway robbery over Mattyhse? Lol that was legendary. Shocked this guy was able to make a career on HBO, PBC. Boring as hell and plain vanilla 1-2 as it gets.
I feel you but he's still not a bum. He beat Soto Karrass, is he a bum in your opinion? Because he accomplished less than Alexander did.
