Amazing how a thread title whips up a frenzy. Chillax, people, it WON'T happen! Urango-Alexander is a go and it just looks like Rees is after some attention:deal.
It happens time and time again. People read the thread title, blow a gasket and go straight to the "reply" button to post a "disgusted of Tunbridge Wells" type rant without stopping to ask themselves if the heinous event is even likely to happen!!
http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/BN08/detail.asp?id=1414 HOT off his recent success in Matchrooms Prizefighter competition, Newbridges former WBA light-weight champion Gavin The Rock Rees could be set for a surprising second world title tilt. Although nothing has been confirmed as yet, 29-year-old Rees, 31-1 (14), and his trainer Enzo Calzaghe believe that a shot at WBC light-welterweight champion Devon Alexander could happen on Don Kings Las Vegas bill on March 6. At present Colombian puncher Juan Urango is pencilled to put his IBF strap on the line against St. Louis, Missouris Alexander in a unification bout, but Rees believes it will be him in the opposing corner instead come fight night. Alexanders name is being put forward at the moment and weve sent contracts back so were just waiting for confirmation, Rees revealed. Hopefully it goes ahead but Ive seen Urango down on Boxrec so I dont know whats happening there. We should know for definite next week. ,p> Enzo says hes in contact with Don King everyday, seems to think its 100 per cent on, he seems to have been telling everybody [about it], but were just waiting now. The chance to be a two-time world champion is what Ive been waiting for. I want to take the opportunity now to step onto bigger things. I said I wouldnt box at light-welterweight again but obviously for a world title Im willing to fight at the weight again. Its a great chance for me to get the WBC belt, but if not Ill come back to lightweight. In early December Rees scooped £32,000 after defeating Ted Bami, Jason Cook and Colin Lynes over three rounds each at Londons Olympia to take the ninth Prizefighter trophy. And he believes his its his stellar performances in the competition that have led to him being considered as a fighter worthy of competing in 12-round championship class again. There were some former British and European champions in there that had boiled down in weight while I was coming up, but I always knew I had a great chin and I knew that the type of competition suited my style perfectly, he said. It felt good to get back in the mix and because of that Im getting these offers now. If I hadnt won that I wouldnt be getting them but its going to help get me the title fights that I have been waiting for. Obviously it was a frustrating year in the gym for me and the rest of the boys because the fall-out between Joe [Calzaghe] and Frank Warren affected everybody, but hopefully this will be a better year for all of us. Im just happy to be boxing again and getting in title fights now. Rees hopes hell have some more concrete information regarding the Devon Alexander fight by the end of next week.
