Devon Alexander vs Marcos Rene Maidana Deal Agreed

I think Maidana walks him down. Alexander tips off his shots, he hits too much air and gets hit really clean, especially with the right hand.

Mathysse didn't show enough urgency in their fight, otherwise he would've got a stoppage. Now, Lucas is much better technically then Maidana, but Maidana puts you under much more mental pressure. He gonna have to force a stoppage though. Because unless he completely dominates, with a couple of KD's along the way, he ain't getting a decision.

 

Normally Maidana has a habit of looking fearsome vs the so called yound top dogs of the division but struggling vs the veterans (Morales/Corely). And whilst I don't think Alexander is as good as Khan or even Ortiz, I think he would win this fight.

Alexander's power got massively overrated after the Urango KO (great punch however) and usually with someone like Maidana I'd see that lack of power as a major problem. But the southpaw style, plus the fact he has decent straight punches and movement, even if it tends to be quite negative, suggests to me that he will just have enough to evade Maidana to pick up enough rounds for a routine pts win. Maidana really in truth isn't a good pressure fighter so with someone as comfortable on the back foot as Alexander, I'd be surprised to see him cut the ring off well enough often to cause damage.

Maidana should try and a Guerrero fight IMO, I think he'd have a better chance in that one tbh.

An intriguing fight.

I’m not sure if Maidana will have the same success against Alexander that he did against Khan, because Alexander’s more durable. And I’m not sure if Alexander would have the same success against Maidana that Khan did, because Khan’s faster and more aggressive.

I can see it going one of two ways...

Alexander on his bike and making Maidana miss enough to impress the judges with his continuous ‘hah! hah! hah!’ rights and lefts that don’t even land or hurt Maidana. Alexander close UD.

Or, Maidana being the aggressor and impressing the judges against a negative Alexander. Maidana close UD.

Alexander will do well boxing initially in the early rounds but I can see Maidana catching up with him mid to late rounds.

 

I agree.

Maidana's comparative lack of technical ability might serve him well here.

The extra 7lbs will probably do him a favour too.
