Dawsons 25 and Diaconu 29 anyone who would appear to be a threat are on their way out Jones, Hopkins, Woods, Johnson, Tarver
This thread isnt designed to pit Dawson haters vs Diaconu haters..please
Theirs alot to like about both fighters, they are certainly different style wise while both are very enjoyable to watch we can be assured both will be at 175 for awhile
Both in my opinion are very intelligent and do a great job of controlling the fight and dictating the action
That being said are there any contenders out their that would pose a problem for either fighter?? Please discuss:good

Winner of unbeaten Dawson v. unbeaten Diaconu will be in a pretty strong position, I think. There's always Kessler, though.

Well not sure who Diaconus fighting in march..Dawsons fighting Johnson whos on his way out.....
Kessler..I like him..I like him but not a chance... Dawson would outbox, time, and has too much power for Kessler....I guess I've lost alot of faith in Kesslers mental toughness after the Joe fight...I want to see him fight again soon to be sure he did'nt get "Lacy's Disease"
Diaconu I think would murder him...Kessler would try to keep him at bay with a good jab but Kessler doesnt move well enough to avoid Diaconu who moves very well. I would be very scared for Mikkel

Joe certainly crushed Mikkel mentally in that battle; I doubt Mikkel will not get over it, but it will take 1-2 fights. I also think you overrate Diaconu's movement and Dawson's power. Kessler is much better than you give him credit for, I think.

Kessler is good hes not spectacular at any one thing but does most everything well...I think I've got Diaconus movement spot on..for his size he's very catlike moving in and out of the pocket..you might call me crazy but he reminds me of a big Kostya Tszyu as far as movement goes...he moves smartly no dancing or anything just wise, aggressive movement at the proper times
Dawsons power is usually combined with proper timing or countering which also has a KO effect....

Calzaghe and Kessler would both beat them, Johnson will beat Dawson, Hopkins and Roy Jones would beat them to.

Yeah, Diaconu is catlike; he does pounce. But I wouldn't call his footwork great; he does plod most o the time.

Glen Johnson will put Chad Dawson in perspective. If Johnson wins, Bad Chad is just another contender. If Dawson is victorious, he's a player. Yeah, Dawson was impressive against Adamek, but the Pole has no defense.
Diaconu has fought absoloutly no one yet, so its hard to tell about him.
Lets see him beat somebody like Julio Gonzolez, then he's a contender to talk about.

Would Diaconu be a contender if he beats Silvio Branco or Chris Henry?

I still don't get all the love for Diaconu. I personally think he's clearly a tier below the Glen Johnsons of the world. So yeah, I think plenty of others are a threat. He's an undersized straightforward boxer-puncher with a strong punch, but not so strong as to have higher than a 60% KO rate. He would have a chance against Dawson because of his power, but wouldn't have much of a chance against many lesser fighters, simply because he'd easily be outboxed by most of the top tier.

Johnson also stands as good of a chance as any against Dawson. He's one of about 3 or 4 guys who might be able to take advantage of Dawson's dodgy chin. Other than maybe Calzaghe or Hopkins though, I doubt anyone's outboxing Dawson.

Diaconu is a bit like Froch. Everyone thinks he's limited and would beat him, but for his punch. If someone like Bute would beat Froch, you'd fancy his chances at SMW, if there were no Joe or Mikkel, right? Same with Diaconu - if Dawson beat Diaconu, you'd have to fancy his chances at LHW.

I'm not saying he's not a decent prospect, but I can't see how he's ever become 'the man' the way a lot of Canadians here are touting him to be. It's nice to see support for Bute and Molitor, but Diaconu, Pascal and Alcine all seem overhyped by virtue of fighting out of Montreal.

He's not "the man" - but there are some nuthuggers who think he's a world-beater...hey, so does Allan Green! Difference is, Diaconu is still unbeaten. If he becomes WBC Interim Champ, he'll get to fight Dawson. If he beats Dawson, the hype will become unbearable, but would in my mind be justified; if he loses - you could argue he's just another hyped "joke", like some say Green is, or you could say...he's second tier, like others say about Green.

Dawson is the best at 175. At 175 Erdei, Woods and Garay would all beat Diaconu. And of course Dawson.

Diaconu gets way to much credit for beating Rico Hoye (who Woods had already beaten)

a guy like Hopkins would beat Diaconu with ease and I like Diaconu.
