Look, lads, let me remind you: "ducking" doesn't mean "afraid". It means "avoiding forever, unacceptably". Yeah, sure, Dawson signed to fight his mandatory, Diaconu, when he couldn't get a big has-been American NAME to face him. But after Diaconu pulled out with an injury, and was reconfirmed as mandatory, he started to duck him. And he is still trying to duck him, according to his latest interviews - there's not ONE mention of a Diaconu fight after Johnson!!!:-(
You have totally got your facts wrong here, Diaconu pulled out. Dawson hasn't DUCKED anyone... he is fighting Johnson now, a decent challenger, and looking for bigger and better things. His first couple defences aren't even that bad considering the champion he fought to get the belt, and when looked at comparitively to guys like Sturm, Abraham, Calzaghe, Mundine etc etc... I don't really see what you are so upset about here.
The Diaconu fight would have given him a career high payday! Henry is making 400k fighting Diaconu for the paper WBC Interim, in Romania! Dawson would have made more. It's not principally about the money; it's about risk/reward.
Its only been a SHORT amount of time though, i think you are jumping the gun a bit here... Of course he is going to be interested in fighting the bigger names, they give more money and exposure. Its business. Lets see how Diaconu does in his upcoming fight, i am sure if he is dominant, the Dawson fight will come through, espeically because he is the mandatory. If he decides to drop his bet and fight a nobody, then i will agree with you. But its still VERY early days at this stage.
He has talked about fighting the winner of Woods v. Tarver, RJJ or Pavlik before his fight w/ Johnson :nod THEY AREN'T HIS MANDATORY!!! Diaconu is! If anyone, whom should he be talking about??:blood
Probably, also about exposure. Fighting Tarver or someone may generate more income again though... Just because Diaconu offered him a career high pay day, doesn't mean he couldn't get more elsewhere either... He is only a very young world champion. Getting a career high pay day doesn't mean much at this young stage of his career, as he probably hasn't hit the big $$$$$ fights yet. I would be interested to know what he is getting for the Johnson fight.
Where am i supposed to be reading??? I looked through the thread and didn't see anything... What evidence is there that he ducked him... And on another note. SURELY you can see that RJJ/Pavlik or Tarver/Woods will generate FAR more income and give FAR more exposure then Diaconue... Thats seems like common sense to me. Of course those match up will seem more appealing, they are far more lucrative in every sense.
I rate Dawson very highly. Have him in my Top 15 p4p. Still unproven though. Diaconu - not even in my Top 30 p4p...not even close...very much unproven. HOWEVER, as a man, I think Dawson is a JOKE! I don't respect him at all! I DO respect Diaconu as a man - he wants to fight the best; he walked away from by far his biggest payday when he got injures because he wanted to give his very best against Dawson - that I HAVE to respect!:yep
