The same Diaz that showed up in H TOWN against Marquez stops Malinaggi. Malinaggi doesn't have the power to keep Diaz off of him. In fact I think Diaz stops Malinaggi before Hatton did.
Does it matter? Just because it's not currently 'in talks' as you put it doesn't mean we can't speculate. Isn't that what all the 'prime Tyson v prime Frasier' threads are - speculation?

Make no mistake, he's a *** but Malignaggi is one tough guy. Diaz still doesn't hit all that hard, Malignaggi has a good chin and a lot of heart. He takes Diaz the distance, but Juan lands too much and takes a comfortable decision. Useing only the jab with no real snap and no right hand behind it isn't going to keep off a physically strong pressure fighter like Juan Diaz. Over 12 I think he wins about 9-3.
Malignaggi would be a bloody mess but i say it goes the distance. Unless you think Diaz packs a harder punch than Cotto or Hatton (who probably shouldn't have got the stoppage) he's not getting stopped. Points decision to Diaz.
