He has always been known as a fighter with silky boxing skills but under the guidance of new coach Billy Hussein he has developed a more aggressive style with all his six wins in 2010 coming inside the distance. He now stands with a record of 30-1 (18 KOs) and looks to land a title shot in 2011 in a division packed with such talented champions as Yuri Gamboa (IBF), Chris John (WBA) and Juan Manuel Lopez (WBO). Against this back drop of quality this will be no easy feat but one which the 25 year old from Sydney relishes. The 126 pound division if full of some exciting fighters and some of the best champions and I believe after the Luevano loss and with a new trainer in Billy Hussein in my corner we are ready to take on the world in 2011.It is a key year for me to show the boxing world that I am capable of securing a world title for Australia, he told Fightnews. I admit that the fight for the WBO title against Luevano was not that exciting and it has been difficult for me to secure international coverage as a result but now with eight stoppage wins in my ten wins since that fight, my style is now more aggressive and ultimately more appealing to the fans. I have worked patiently up the rankings and with an IBF#5 slot now secured I hope to get that major title shot in 2011. Although Yuri Gamboa as IBF champion is his main target he is also keen to secure a WBA shot with unbeaten Chris John who trains in Perth, Western Australia under the guidance of Craig Christiansen. He added, I have personally called Christiansen and tried get this fight on in Australia for the WBA title and he told me that they would rather wait for a $500K payday with a unification fight with someone like Gamboa than take me on for a $200k in a title defense. I personally think they know Chris John is in the latter stages of his career and doesnt want to risk his title with a young, hungry and quick fighter with a point to prove. Yuri Gamboa would be my natural target given my IBF ranking and I am convinced I can defeat him. He is an excellent fighter but I feel he is front end loaded and if I can get him into the later rounds he doesnt seem as effective and I know I can defeat him. Another couple of impressive wins and I will be pushing to get to the mandatory position. Dib is also however keen not to put all his eggs in one basket and seeks to build on his position with the WBA and WBC rankings next year. He stated, I also have a WBC#13 ranking and would love to develop that more in the early part of 2011 and work my way up all the governing bodies. My target is that after another two fights in 2011 and continued progression and development that I will be ready for any of the champions at 126 pounds. I know that I will have to travel overseas and that does not worry me and I know the global boxing fans would love to see my new aggressive boxing style developed under Billy Hussein. Dib is appreciative of the skills his new trainer brings to the table and commented, He is a master tactician with years of experience. People were so surprised recently when Garth Wood defeated Anthony Mundine but I know Garth was working with Billy in the gym on the specific plan that brought the KO win. He has an ability to guide the right tactics for the right fight and he showed that with the shock win last week he is a great man to have in my corner. At a time when Australian boxing has taken a hit with successive losses to Michael Katsidis, Sakio Bika, Lovemore Ndou, Anthony Mundine and Vic Darchynian to end 2010, it could be the exciting Dib who takes over the mantle in 2011 as one of Australias marquee fighters. With his loss to Luevano and the nature of the defeat he has adapted his style to add more aggression to his resume and it appears to have worked with his wins by stoppage ratio improving under new trainer Billy Hussein. It could be an exciting year for Billy Dib in 2011 within a talent packed 126 pound division he seems more motivated than ever after the defeat in 2008 for the WBO title to prove a point to the boxing world take his career to the next level. But Mundine was beat by another Aussie :huh Surely Aussie boxing hit a hight point not taken a hit.
I agree, he looked shite vs Luevano, seemed to be more interested in posing and showponying than trying to hit Luevano but I guess that was his attempt at hiding the fact he was scared to engage with him.
Dib is a funny one to work out, i've seen some impressive performances but disappointing ones as well. I sorta of agree that he's probably not going to make it but haven't quite closed the door on him succeeding either.
i thought it was 2010 that was to be big. he must be using mundines scheduling blueprint, lol. the year just keeps changing.
Not taking anything away from Billy Hussein but wasn't his last trainer Johnny Lewis? Billy can propose these fights day & night, but until he gets in the trenches with a few quality offshore fighters, he won't get a saturday matinee. The next time they contact Craig Christian will prolly be the last time they waste their money. Down hill side of his career or not, Billy is a bulls roar from Chris John. He'll prolly get the fight, but I very much doubt it will be in 2011. Not while Craig thinks there's still cream in the cow. Wasn't it Craig who said "We'll never fight Billy Dibb, we're terrified of him"
While I don't see Dib beating any top contenders yet, they've been touting him for long enough, and Luevano was a couple of years ago, so I guess it is time to have another go
Luevano beat him comfortably. I can only imagine what the likes of any top 10 rated Ring Magazine Featherweights would do, especially the likes of a Gamboa or Juanma Lopez.:tired:tired
2 years ago.he has only fought domestic level since but has looked good.time for him to **** or get off the pot.Gamboa would own him badly IMO but if he gives it a go good luck to him.when does CJ have to fight Gamboa?
By march apparently John has to fight Gamboa or else a purse bid will be called i think in February. Sampson Lewkowicz met with Bob Arum recently & they have deals ironed out to do with Gamboa-John meeting down the track as well as Cotto-Martinez in late 2011 also.
