While I thought the coverage was good and I didn't mind the commentary (I like Mats understated delivery) there were a few teething problems for onehd. Firstly, they got caught short when Withers went the elbow smash and found themselves needing to make up some time. So they went to do some crowd interviews and as I said to boxoncottonon, 'This is always death'. Nice to know I still got it. Hey, why not interview Liz Ellis, she knows a lot about boxing. Cue the ring announcer guy who needed a compass to navigate his way around the ring to her. Unfortunately just he reaches her the cameramans cable runs out at full extension so we treated to a remarkbly forced interview with a nice long shot of the ring to go with it. Then stalling/filling for time (by which stage the camera man has finally turned up) they interview some chick next to Liz 'who's never been to boxing before but wow, when they hit, they really hit'. Thanks, I'll be sure and try to notice that next time I go to a fight. Kudos to Billy 'The Dib' Kid, as announced by our ring guy who seems to be certainly excelling in this post. I don't have his name, it would take me 15 seconds to look it up but hes not worthy of me wasting that much time on him. Also the Meehan interview which has already been mentioned. Look all in all they did well, they were some teething problems and they were caught unprepared in a few instances but they'll be better prepared for the next broadcast. You'd hope.
I really don't want to watch it again, it was horrible. That said I saw what I saw and the Japanese did everything I have stated and more. I think the criticism is very one sided here. The Japanese fighter was a dog from the opening bell and I was hoping Dib would give him the rough stuff back in response to the blatant cheating the Japanese was showing.
Yeah, the Jap blatantly cheated by hitting Dib with that 3 punch combo in the corner eh? I've covered it in posts #73 & #74, I even included some nice pics. If you cant be bothered watching it again go back and at least check it out. Your analysis is incredibly way off though imo.
Right on Leon. The Japanese guy will go home and say "Don't take a fight in Australia, they'll rob you" and we'll just have to wear it as that was an utter disgrace.
It sounds as though your mind is made up.... No thoughts of a NO CONTEST? In all fairness some slack has to be cut here. Your opinion seems to be very one sided. Its not what took place during the fight best described as a carpark scuffle, it is the result and how that came about. If you believe Dibb won this fairly and squarely your on another planet :hi:.
Fear's reffing in both bouts was woeful. Withers was a straight DQ despite his apologies later and the Dib fiasco unbelievable. We want Aussie boxing free to air. We must get the best officials on deck to ensure this nonsense doesn't happen again. On a positive note, a great fight Vea and Mc Cracken. Both spoke really well after. Take note Dib's team. Really Billy Hussein needs a cleanout of his helpers and hangers on . I wouldn't put any of his fighters on tv till they get this crap sorted.
Did anybody else get the impression that the Jap fighter was overstating his wobblyness when he stood up and swayed toward Les....for a moment when Les waved off the fight it looked as though Yamaguchi thought..."**** me ...no way I'm joking"... and looked to sober up dramatically... Leon, do you think it looks this way on the replay?? Yamaguchi must have watched "The Drunken Master" in his preparation....
****en shocking display. spoken to a few people today that i had been geeing up and trying to get some support for oz boxing, and they were appalled that something that unprofessional can unfold on a televised event.
The celebration was a bit over tha top it was like he won a championship. When in reality he beat a japanese bum...wtf was he so happy about? fiasco afterwards was like a riot in bagdad!!
Is there a 3 corner man rule in NSW? This is not good and once again Husseins team are involved. Doesn't Billy have control or respect from his boxers?
Its a tough one, he really looked like he was on spaghetti legs but at 8 straightened up but still looked slightly wobbly. He sure seemed to indicate he was ready to go to Fear. But he looked good to continue, I've seen numerous fights where the guys been in way worse condition and the refs waved them in again. He certainly was ready to go the instant Fear stopped the fight. If he was putting it on he may have been a victim of his own performance. Remember Anthony Bonsantes out could on the canvas performance which caused the ref to stop it just as he sprang up. Theres a method in their madness but it can be done too well.
3 Things to add here: - Channel Ten seriously needs to get some commentators who have some frigging BALLS. Seriously the only thing more disappointing than Dib's antics last nite was the bunch of SOFTCOCKS who didn't say a thing about how disgraceful Dib's actions were or how disgraceful the ref. was. Gutless is all I'll say about the commentators. Bring back Paul Briggs, . . . at least he'll call it as he sees it. - Johnny Lewis get back to doing what you do best and that is, training other fighters. You belong in the gym, and not in the host chair. Your ****-sucking of Dib last nite was just laughable pre-fight, and then your gutless refusal to comment on the post-fight antics was again a disgrace. - Finally, I would not blame it if ANY overseas fighter would ever want to come and fight over here if that's the way they are going to be treated. It's no wonder you rarely see fighters ever leaving their home country these days, as it's more than likely they will get this hometown bull**** every time they fight abroad. It happened with Dib-Marali, and it will keep happening again and again.
