Aussie Featherweight, Billy "The Kid" Dib and his team have just announced that he will be fighting Jorge Lacierva (39-7-6) of Mexico on the 29th July, 2011 at the Sydney Entertainment Centre for the IBF Featherweight Title. http://www.aus-boxing.com/2011/05/billy-dib-to-fight-jorge-lacierva.html
There's a press release tomorrow on his site. Was just talking to him and he said even he's not sure. I'm thinking Fox Sports FNF or One HD as a wildcard. Hopefully not Main Event, even though I would pay its expensive month with Green also.
Rumour i heard is FOX Friday Night Fights/Andy Raymond couldnt free the date up for the telecast which is a bloody disgrace if true considering its for the vacant IBF title. FOX have a show a week later which probably doesnt help...but still its not like they show fight cards every friday. Would be a mega hard sell on Main Event unless it was at $10-15 max! Hope another broadcaster like OneHD or maybe even ESPN Australia come to the table.
That's why I think One HD, and he promoted Superboxer on their channel, so I reckon it's most likely.
I am suprised Team Grub went with the Ent Cen as a venue. Bearing in mind Billy is about as popular as a turd in a swimming pool they could have book a phone booth and still had plenty of room to move!
Wow, very suprised they got the fight for the vacant IBF. What happened to Mickey Garcia?? He only fought on the weekend and his been lining up that title?
Garcia turned the fight down because no American TV station was going anywhere near a Dib fight. It come down to a choice between a HBO appearance or a shot at a vacant belt V Dib. You know what he took!
Aside from all the politics , anyone got an opinion on how this one will go ? I'm tipping the Mexican by late stoppage.
Intresting situation.. I guess its not what you know but WHO you know, hey RAY? lol Just last week on IBF site rankings.. 1 This content is protected United States 2 Jorge Lacierva United States 3 Billy Dib Australia Now today... 1 NOT RATED 2 Jorge Lacierva United States 3 Billy Dib Australia 4 Sofiane Takoucht France 5 John Simpson United Kingdom 6 Daniel Ponce De Leon Mexico 7 Daulis Prescott Colombia 8 Luis Franco Cuba 9 Stephen Smith United Kingdom 10 Francisco Leal Mexico 11 Joksan Hernandez Mexico 12 This content is protected United States http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=364679&cat=boxer He didnt loose his last fight, WTF is this bullsht cooked crap. How can a #1 ranked guy slip to #12 overnight without loosing a fight? This one stinks.
Mikey is ranked very high inside top 5 in all the other sanctioning bodies so it wouldnt surprise if he got a shot at the WBC or WBA especially. Cam Duncan one of the top managers in all boxing knows what he is doing. Is funny tho they dropped him all the way to 12 just for not fighting for their vacant title & yet coming off a win on HBO this wkend. These bs politics is what turns so many people away from the sport.
