DiBella & Arum will make Cotto-Martinez... but on PPV, really?

Can a comebacking Cotto vs a comebacking Martinez generate decent PPV numbers?

Source is ESPN by the way.

It will probably be the loser's farewell fight... hopefully it's at MSG. K2 Promotions should try anything and everything to secure the rights to have Golovkin fight the winner in a torch passing fight.

Weight being discussed is 158 lbs. It'd be great if Golovkin could fight the winner in NYC around same time next year.

I see Martinez recovering to 65-70% of his ability, edging Cotto in a decision. Golovkin beating the winner despite the fact these two are well past prime means his career really, really takes off. Same recipe used by a lot of fighters.

    Won't do big numbers...
(Depends how much they stack the cards tho?)

    Good KO win for Sergio.

Cotto should only take this fight at 154lbs

They will clearly have to stack the card if they want this to do decent on PPV.

158 catchweight? Why?! If Cotto wants to be the champ at 160, just fight at 160.
Either way, I do want to see this fight.

Why won't they do a Caneloe and Cottoe fight?

I thought Martinez was under contract with HBO?!

Yeah well basically it's for Cotto to decide. He either gets Alvarez on Showtime, or Martinez on HBO since he's a free agent. Better chance of beating Martinez IMO, no way Cotto wins a decision vs Canelo.

Cotto is like the prom queen fight now, Both Alvarez & Martinez want a piece.
(Gonna make a decent amount of change off either fight)

ASSuME the Sho fight would fatten his pockets a bit more tho right??

He would make way more against Canelo. I can't see a Sergio PPV selling.

It's going to do good business. Cotto fighting for the Ring and lineal middleweight titles against a fan-friendly Sergio Martinez? Makes sense.

Big difference is that Canelo's coming off a loss, Sergio still has the middleweight title. Also, he can always go back to Canelo after the Martinez fight- Cotto's one of the few guys out there that can realistically play both sides of the fence in the HBO-Showtime cold war.

Right. His chances of winning -and enhancing his legacy if Martinez' MW Ring title is on the line- are better against Martinez though.

Probably similar numbers to Bradley-Marquez, I can't remember how many PPVs they sold for Martinez-Chavez Jr... they need a great undercard.
