Great read. http://www.maxboxing.com/news/other-boxing-news/dibella-doesnt-back-down About Martinez vs. Angulo: I made an offer to Angulo and it was rejected, griped the champs promoter, Lou DiBella, almost in disbelief. I dont know what number Angulo would accept to fight Sergio Martinez but it appears to me that maybe the dogs bark is a lot greater than his bite. And I laugh to myself with the f**king interview that Max Kellerman gave in the ring to Angulo about how no one wants to fight Angulo. Well, one of the top five pound-for-pound fighters in the world who holds the middleweight title would happily to fight Angulo and if Angulos a pit bull, and not a Chihuahua, then maybe the fight could be made. About Caballero vs. Gamboa: I asked for $350,000, stated DiBella, who knows a bit about negotiations being a Harvard Law graduate and a former executive at HBO Sports. They tried to act as if I was pricing myself out of the fight but they offered $350,000 for Rojas. About Berto vs. Mosley: An industry source revealed to me last week that the only fight HBO wanted for the Haitian was a revival of the postponed scrap with Shane Mosley, where Golden Boy insisted on being lead promoter with 60% of the money coming their way. In addition, the purported proposal had the bout occurring on Mosleys home turf of Los Angeles, with Saul Canelo Alvarez as the opening fight on the broadcast. Of course, keep in mind that Mosley would be coming in as the challenger to Bertos belt, in addition to previously having lost 10 out of 12 rounds to Floyd Mayweather on two of the judges scorecards. Instead, Mosley is now slated to face Sergio Mora in an all-Golden Boy affair on September 18 in the Staples Center.
Never woulda thought Angulo would be a ducker. I mean he can maybe say he isnt ready for a fight with Martinez because he is pretty green yet but dont use the money excuse because he is not worth that much.
I agree with all he's saying with the exception of Mosley. Angulo should have taken the fight for the amount of money that was offered. I believe it was $750K - please correct me if I'm wrong. I think Angulo wanted $1M. Turned down a chance to fight for the title - a nice payday - and wouldn't lose his standings in the rankings of the JM. Caballero accepts the same offer that was given to Rojas and Gamboa's team turns it down. Seems like no one really wants to fight him. Risk vs. Reward plays the biggest factor here. Especially when you have Lopez and Gamboa headed torwards each other for far more money than Caballero can generate. Then the Mosley/Berto situation. Regardless if Berto has a belt or not - other than the fact that HBO has babied him - he has no following. Mosley would be the draw. And since when did losing to the best make that much of a difference when it came to pursue splits for other fighters? Berto's best name on his resume is a disputed decision he got over Collazo. Mosley would have been the best name he could have gotten in the ring - but turns the fight down over pride. A win against Mosley would do wonders for his career. Now he's in no man's land. A Triple Header is being put together and he still has no opponent in sight. Nobody's fault but his own and his teams. Now sit and wait for something good to happen.
Easy, its in-house + the undercard is strong. That & people want to see what Mosley looks like post PBF.
I agree. The main event for Lopez-Marquez is worth the price alone, but Golden Boy's strategy is pretty clear; see how many Latino fans, especially those in So-Cal, who will choose Canelo, Ortiz, and Mora over watching one great fight and a shaky undercard (although Benavidez is one to watch on the Top Rank show)
"I made an offer to Angulo because I'll do almost anything to keep Paul Williams away from my fighter." (Lou diBella)
I guess...I wonder if you put a poll up asking who won between Williams and Martinez the first time it would put your quote in perspective.
