Calzaghe would`ve beaten a prime Roy Jones?.Don`t even think Calzaghe would`ve got past a prime Chris Eubank all them years ago.Joe Calzaghe came on the boxing scene at just the right time imo.

Two or three months ago, I said that a prime Roy beats a prime Joe with relative ease.

    I saw an 8-4 win(possibly a 9-3 or a 7-5).

    Now I'm slightly less certain.

If Joe was at the top of his game, Roy would have to be at the top of his too, or risk the upset.

And still, if the best versions of both showed up, I think Roy still takes it.

But it would be a good competitive fight, and his toughest ever, including Ruiz.

Regarding Bernard, I have never believed that any version of Bernard would have beaten prime Calzaghe.

    Same goes for Toney.

Hey Cuch, I'm pretty tired today and can't be bothered with a big Calzaghe fight with anyone, but I'll just ask you a simple question, and read and digest your answer, as I know you will have thought about this before so my little paragraph won't change your mind.

Joe Calzaghe was ineffective to the point of impotent against Bernard Hopkins. He hardly landed one clean punch the entire night, he could not come close to hurting Hopkins. He edged the decision on workrate alone. Now, Hopkins still has the skills to operate at a very high level just now, but as we saw in the Taylor fights as well that if a guy has a high-octane output, at his age he simply cannot hang with that. It's just nature.

Do you not think that the Hopkins of say, 2001, when he was 36 (the age Joe is now), the man who so masterfully defeated Trinidad, would have been free from the shackles of age and thus would have had absolutely no problem fighting at a high pace for 12 rounds (Hopkins was famed for his conditioning in his younger days, it is the main reason he can still compete at world level now, back then his stamina was excellent), that he would both (a) be able to nullify Calzaghe's flurries as simply as he did in their recent clash, and (b) sustain his attacks, be more aggressive, have a much higher output himself and maintain this?

Hopkins has always been more skilled than Calzaghe, far more accurate, has a far better defence, better punch power, and the 2001 version of B-Hop had pace and energy that the 2008 version lacks.

After watching the Hopkins v Calzaghe fight, watching every one of Hopkins's world title fights from Glen Johnson in '97 onwards, and every one of Calzaghe's from Chris Eubank in '97 onwards, I sincerely believe that the 2001 Hopkins would be Kryptonite for Calzaghe. I have thought about this a lot, and I just cannot envisage any outcome that would see Hopkins's greater defence and accuracy allied to his 2001 stamina, energy and aggression fail against Joe Calzaghe.

How do you see it differently mate? :bbb

How many of Floyd's opponents were top10 p4p in his career? 1, and thats Hatton. Yet people still consider him an ATG.

Calzaghe is definately an ATG. greater than Roy or Hopkins? of course not.

i agree mate ive analysed that fight over and over and i never come out with a hypothetical prime scenario other than a comprehensive victory for hopkins. He pretty much nullified calzaghes own gameplan to the point where even calzaghe and his camp didnt think he'd won ive watched most of calzaghes fights ive never seen him controlled and his workrate cut like that (controlled to a much lesser extent round 9 onwards)

Top 150 imo. I do like Joe a lot. Jones would keep him on the outside the whole time hooking off that Jab an uppercut. Jones points win

I dont say who was faster but Calzage would still be the fastest opponent that Jones ever faced and it would throw him off...I am not saying who would have won but Calzage is no slouch and is very adaptive in the ring..he would adjust to Jones...Prime vs Prime...a tougher fight ...I would not expect Calzage to dominate like he did with the 3 year older Jones
