martinez should leave dibella, he wouldn't get him a big fight and he's not giving him risky fights anymore because he wants to cash in.

I love Lou and I'm supper pumped to see him finally have control over one of the two best fighters in the business pound for pound, but I agree with others that this is a dick move. Martinez-Pirog would be a great fight for boxing.

So you saying martinez is ducking pirog?

Look martinez is not getting any younger, he is out for the money fights, his dream is being p4p number 1. Beating guys like pirog ain't gonna do it. He needs some serious names on his resume whether they are above or below his weightclass.

And he's not obliged to, either.

Martinez is a strong middleweight now. Putting Pacquiao (a small welterweight) and Cotto (a small light-middle) in with someone like that, is not necessary.

168lbs probably is too big for him, what's your point?

The guy is not far removed from 154lbs, in fact he has had what, 2 bouts at Middleweight (ignoring the catchweight bouts)...and has yet to weigh in on the Middleweight limit.

Using the logic that Martinez is fighting "smaller" guys is like saying Pacquiao would be picking on "smaller" guys if he were to bring say Bradley up to 147lbs (or even a catchweight). Especially considering the majority believe Pacquiao can still make 140lbs.

Also, what's wrong with looking for the big bouts at this point in his career? He's on a great run, the big bouts are within distance, especially at a catchweight. Martinez vs either Mayweather or Pacquiao would be a lot more appealing than Martinez vs anyone in the Super 6.

fighting midgets half his size would not give him that p4p status. but fighting at 168lbs and winning would surely does

Pirog is decent, hard-hitting, good-sized middleweight.

Cotto and Margarito are unproven at 154, let alone 160! Also, Cotto is damaged goods, and some consider Margarito to be too. Martinez would destroy them.

I think there is definitely some **** going on with Pirog's handlers that made Lou say that. From what I've read, my guess is Pirog got the belt and is holding it hostage over in Russia and his handlers are impossible to negotiate with. That's just my opinion but it makes sense. Why hasn't he fought anyone since the Jacobs win? It's not like there aren't plenty of guys that want to fight him.

    Errr no.

So you think fighting Froch at 168 and winning is a better win regardless of weight than fighting pac at 154 pounds.

    Cool story.

I understand Dibella's point of view. Pirog is not a big name and the championship he has should belong to Martinez. He won it by beating Pavlik, and never lost it in the ring.
My question is wouldn't that be motovation to try and get back what is his?

You could have said the same thing about mayweather, when he left the sport berto took his title, when he came back he had no interest in picking it back up from him.

Mayweather doesn't need belts. Belts need him.

This makes zero sense. Why would he be motivated to get an ABC belt he already won? I'd be much more motivated by $$ at this point in his career.
