What did Martinez do to earn a shot at fighting Williams or even a former belt holder Cintron for that matter? Beat Bunema? He had an exciting style and people could see the talent was there, just like Pirog. I disagree but either way it's not like we're ever going to find out. Martinez wants the likes of 1 dimensional 154 lb guys like Angulo or Kirkland or ****ing tiny Pacquiao. Oh or mighty Cotto lol
So you're saying Martinez is ducking people now? Pirog would be in the same boat as Dzinziruk.. A promising fighter with an undefeated record.. Dzinziruk got starched.. Just because Pirog KO'd Jacobs, he should automatically get a shot at Martinez? Let those guys build their names up a little more.
Martinez is MW champion yet it's too much to ask that he actually fightes one? Pirog is a legit MW with much better D especially against the style of a guy like Martinez and has a solid chin, MW punch, and awkward style.
People get handed title shots all the time in every division.. Why did he get a fight with Williams? Cuz he was the only one with the balls to man up and fight Williams.. With wins over Williams, Pavlik and Dzinziruk and the manner in which he did them, he's considered one of the elite now.. Just like Pac and Mayweather, no one can just get a shot.. YOu got to earn it.. Pirog hasn't..
Dzinziruk was the only opponent HBO would let Martinez fight then.. After Pavlik, he fights Dzinziruk, and now people are saying he's ducking middleweights?
So you admit he hadn't done anything accomplishment wise but had the balls and an exciting style. What's the difference between where he was at and where Pirog is again?
Pirog has beat Jacobs but who has Jacobs beaten? We don't really know how good Jacobs is. We don't know how good Pirog is. Martinez isn't obliged to give Pirog a fight. Let the likes of Pirog, Golovkin, N'Jikam build themselves before looking to fight Martinez. Pirog is defending against Javier "Who?" Maciel ffs!
i think that martinez has come along 2 years early. once guys like golovkin, lemiuex, angulo, chavez jr, njikam, pirog, kirkland etc get established there's a lot of big fights for him, but at the moment the only big fight is with cotto, who arum wont let anywhere near martinez, or at 168 where he doesn't want to go, but i think he'll have to if he wants to be p4p no1
As far as competition, no, he hadn't really fought anyone before Cintron or Williams.. Martinez hadn't loss then since 2000 and had worked his way up in the rankings.. He was very impressive against Cintron and should have won it, because the draw was bull****.. That fight right there helped him get a fight with Williams whom no one else wanted to fight.. Pirog is a name on the rise and so was Jacobs.. They pit each other together and Pirog was the one who won.. Now he should get a fight with Martinez and Martinez is ducking him? The difference is that right now Martinez is considered one of the elites, just like Pac and Mayweather.. Williams wasn't one of the elites.. He was just a feared man.. Be patient.. The fights will come..
Who has Dibella ever fought himself. He is talking tough like he is a fighter. How about Lou vs Pirog? Lou wouldnt say that to his face I gurantee it.
I am with you that Sergio beats the **** out of Cotto and especially Margarito, but I am intrigued about a Pac fight.
Pirog certainly has the punching power to get Sergio's attention. Sergio recognized early on that Dzin did not have the pop to truly bother him, much less drop him, and as a result he could throw with little regard for consequence. While I still suspcet that Sergio beats Pirog at this stage, I doubt he'll have an easy time of it.
