DiBella: "I'm not letting Taylor make a dumb economic deal."

DiBella says there is an offer on the table, but if Froch's people don't accept it he's not going out of his way to make the fight when there are smarter economic options out there, saying "Nobody is ducking anyone, this is a business."

I hope DiBella is just using Johnson as a bargaining chip against Froch's promoter; Taylor-Johnson makes very little sense for Taylor's career. Why take a more challenging fight that offers less reward? It's hard to look great against Johnson, so even if Taylor wins it probably won't be spectacularly... and there is a decent chance he'd lose. Too risky.

Then again DiBella has a history of putting Taylor in against opponents that make other fighters look bad... Hopkins x2, Winky, Spinks...

Taylor is avoiding Froch as its risk vs reward.

Id still favour Taylor though if they fought as a good jab beats Froch every day of the week.

Carl Froch has no freaking clue where he actually stands on the boxing food chain. Every single one of the guys he's been talking smack about over the past 6 months would hand him his ass. The man is a Zuniga/Miranda level fighter at best.

Yeah, I'm not sure why going life and death with Jean Pascal, who in his past few fights looked so bad that his people cancelled a bout with Edison Miranda, is given all that much hype. But ignoring all of that, DiBella makes the most important point: this is a business. Froch may be deserving of a Taylor fight, but that does not mean it makes economic sense for Taylor. If that is not the case, he is well within his rights to go somewhere else, particularly if it's someone of a similar level.

I agree. Johnson is a VERY stiff ask for Taylor. I think he is using it as a bargaining chip.

Something's not quite right when it's HBO who decides to turn down an undefeated WBC title holder as a suitable opponent.

Pascal and Froch looked like two damned windmills trying to take off. Froch could actually be the first stoppage for Taylor since when?

Why does every fight have to be televised on a premium channel?

If Taylor is determined on fighting 3 times this year, then host a card in MSG, get a good undercard together, and air it on the local TV market, or try ESPN fight nights, and turn in some great numbers.

Do these ****ing promoters not realize that most boxing fans DO NOT have HBO or Showtime?

HBO and Showtime have WAY to much power. Unfortunately they hold the purse string. Ever since Adamek/Cunningham I've been hoping like hell Versus steps up their boxing budget.

If Taylor fights Johnson he will lose and lose badly. He should fight Froch at least its for a title and the easier fight.
