No it was at 160 since he was filling in for Pavlik.

No one had wanted to fight him for years at 154.

Angulo priced himself out of a fight with Martinez before the Williams rematch.
Kirkland was in jail at the time this decision was made and Wolfe has subsequently said she doesn't think he's ready for Martinez.
Was a Don King fighter (therefore impossible to make deals with) and wasn't much of draw.
Even fewer people gave a **** about Lara then than they do now.

He never said it would have to be at a catchweight but that they would have to reach an agreement on the weight. Given how Cotto is or was apparently interested in becoming a middleweight champion, it makes sense to reference an agreement on the weight.

The mindset that seeks the best for fighters and makes sure they get paid as much as they deserve is killing boxing? For what?, to entertain losers than can't even afford a PPV like you?

If they're side-stepping GGG to fight a huge draw then fair enough but if it's another Dzinziruk or Barker, then the argument loses all credibility.

When it was suggested a while ago that Sergio should fight Pirog, DiBella said "**** Dmitry Pirog". Now suddenly, he's a big enough name that a win over him would propel Golovkin to superstar status?

Lou also had the same argument when he was desperately against putting Taylor in with Froch. Sometimes these guys just need a chance.

Like I said, if he can get a huge fight for Martinez then fair enough. If not, then why not GGG?

Make an impression by blowing Sturm off the face of the earth. Geale has to decide by December 31st if he's going to fight GGG or drop his WBA Super trinket. It won't be long before he's taken or scared everybody out of attempting to defend their titles. Will the fight not make sense then? :think Who said he deserves it Now? The above could come to fruition before Martinez even gets back in the ring. It's a fight he WINS imo and I want him to unify the division, as a boxing fan of his. DiBella "And why are you even asking?" -- What a *****. :hi:

I honestly understand what lou is doing. Ppl martinez is about to be 38 years old for crying out loud in which lou wants martinez for now on fighting in big money fights vs big name fighters like mayweather, cotto and yes even canelo but martinez will move down to 154 pounds to make it happen. Look martinez is really a small mw so i just cant see martinez even struggle to make the weight but we'll see. Martinez have fought many fighters that were no names and at 154 pounds nobody wanted to fight him. The late great Forrest didnt want to take a risk and fight Martinez.

Not superstar status, but at least big enough to give him a name.

Pirog mighnt be a huge deal money wise, but hes a HECK of a lot bigger name than Proska!!

He doesn't have to hypocritically recognize Pirog as a superstar to suggest that fight should take place before any Martinez bout. He's said similar things in response to Quillin's call-outs, the point being that top middleweights should fight other top middleweights in the US before necessarily getting the Martinez shot.

They are right about GGG and you are right about Barker but the only way Martinez/Dibella will accept to fight GGG is if HBO is willing to put up good money for Martinez plus ofcourse the date on HBO.

Martinez is not the same that fought Barker, popularity wise, since he finally headlined a PPV. That should give Martinez a bit more say so from the "lesser-unknown" opponents. Other than Chavez Jr (who is the biggest draw, money wise, at MW) Martinez now has the "power" to pick and choose. It sucks but there is a road most of these other guys have to take just like Martinez took it.

GGG should just keep on fighting. If can't find a legit contender atleast bums on HBO to give him more exposure. The more impressive he looks the more "push" he will have to request a fight with Chavez JR/Martinez (the two biggest draws at MW) as the media and HBO will want it too and it will make $en$e.
