Read this over at B-scene. Apparently, Lou DiBella thinks Sergio deserves a soft touch after his recent string of tough opponents. He was unhappy at how Dzinziruk was forced on them and hopes HBO will be amenable to making this fight. What do you think? Are you willing to give Sergio a pass for this, or would you only accept a higher calibre of opponent?
Cintron, Williams, Pavlik, Williams, Dzinziruk... So yeah, why not take an easy fight? But that's only as long as he fights 3 times this year. You don't want to be at his level and fighting twice a year with one of those fights being against Manfredo.
martinez should maximize his oppurtunity. fighting manfredo will be not good to his career as time is not on his side. if an upset will happen, that would be the one of the biggest blunder in his career. he should chase bigger name in his division and above if he really nwanted to be the #1 p4p fighter. he'll lose majority of his stock and might not probably gain it again.
unacceptable there are better fights out there that are low risk i'd rather see a 3rd williams fight than this
Bad move in regard to his career in my opinion. A fight with Manfredo will do absolutely nothing to increase his chances at landing a big fight with a big name. Not to mention it is a joke of a fight, Manfredo would have absolutely zero chance to win that fight, not even a puncher's chance. This generally doesn't sit well with fans who pay good money to watch a "competitive" fight, not a sparring session. Fight should not happen.
Apparently the plan is to fight another 2 times this year, then 3 times next year. If the other 4 opponents are all a legitimate threat, it'll probably be easier for fans to swallow. Manfredo also sells tickets in Rhode Island which is a big reason DiBella is so keen on him.
Dzinziruk wasn't a soft enough touch, especially at 160? And this guy talks about Arum lining up bums for Manny. Atleast Pac is fighting established fighters who were ranked at the top until not that long ago. ****ing fight Pirog, then the Cotto-Margo winner. or since he wants to fight Cotto, Mayweather and Pac, why not a 154 lber, Cintron rematch anyone? He's free
I don't get it. Is it really a pay day? Will people buy that fight? Why do fighters need soft fights when they're fighting 3x a year tops at his level. He's not getting any younger. Might as well strike while the iron is hot and unify.
None of them want Martinez though. But DiBella needs a slap to stop coming up with idiotic fights. Manfredo? Don't insult us - or Maravilla Lou!
I don't mind him fighting Manfredo. He's been in against tough guys for his last 4 or 5 outtings. However, he's on a great momentum, so why not use this against a Pirog or someone? But I guess he knows himself best, and if he feels having a casual fight will do him good, then go for it.
His last two fights have turned out to be easy fights, so why does he need this? The Williams one lasted two rounds and then he had an easy nights work against Dzinziruk. Sure, it looks impressive to go on a streak of top quality opponents and most fighters would be more than to have an easy fight after them, but Martinez has blown them away. Martinez has a massive amount of momentum right now. It'd be a shame to see him lose that fighting a no-hoper like Manfredo. It's a pointless, **** fight that Martinez doesn't even need.
