DiBella pushing for Martinez-Manfredo

I voted unacceptable, but I just checked and Manfredo has fought a couple of recent fights a middleweight. I could think of MANY other people I would rather see Martinez fight, but "unacceptable" may be a bit strong. Not prefered is my vote.

 

Sergio is 36, he needs to not fight guys like Manfredo if he wants any credibility. The only way I see this as acceptable would be if there was an undercard fight where the winner faced Martinez, like Angulo vs. Kirkland for example.

 

Angulo dont want Martinez. It was already offered.
Kirkland probably wouldnt want it anytime soon. He is still rather green along with having a 2 year layoff.

 

Rather than just start naming ANYONE, why don't some of you geniuses take into consideration who's available, his recent record, and who he wants to fight.

Angulo still has Visa problems.
Williams hasn't made any efforts, in fact, he said he's going down in weight.
Kirkland - Not realistic yet
Sturm - Yeah right, not unless Maravilla goes overseas
Bundrage - Doesn't really do much more for him thenb Manfredo
Pavlik - Looking to move up, who knows if they've contacted Martinez camp.


After hisa recent string, there's nothing wrong with a fight vs. Manfredo. Martinez is active and fighting. When you do that, or have his recent string, then you are allowed a soft touch.

Martinez's trainer was arrested for aggravated battery. He is currently jailed in Los Angeles awaiting extradition to Spain where he committed the crime. diBella may be looking out for Martinez while he sorts out the trainer situation. (See article at BS.)

 

Thats a **** fight but at least hes staying active.

Its not his fault the big names arent interested in fighting him.

I read that about Williams. While that could be a mistake, I applaud him for wanting to jump right back into it. I think it would be wise for WIlliams to work on his technique and take on a top ten guy at jrMW before trying for a third fight w/ Martinez. But again, it's his life, his career.

I'm not going to disagree 100% with what you say, but since when do P4P guys fight ONLY top guys each and every time? That's unrealistic, and as I showed to an extent, there just aren't the names around his division.

If anyone deserves an soft touch, it's Martinez. He';s fighting way more frequent then most top guys and, as stated, has taken on a good string of late.

 

Guess that's not bad. But is that really any better then Manfredo? I like Pirog, but his top win is over an untested prospect. With under 20 fights, do we really want Pirog thrown in Martinez? Could be disasterous for him and a major setback.

I must say, I have noticed young, untested guys, picking up belts relatively early in their careers. Guess that's how boxing is today.

 

Not exactly working in his favor of getting to #1 P4P but could be far worse.. Wouldn't pay for the PPV though.
