Dawson vacated to fight IBF champion and former undisputed champion Antonio Tarver. Diaconu on the other hand is fighting a 41 year old former paper champion. Who was only a "good" fighter in his prime.

Enough with this bull****,Dawson should outbox or even stop Tarver,Diaconu should KO Branco and we will see from there.

I don't blame Diaconu for getting hurt, but it does undermine your "ducked him for two years" claim. It wasn't Dawson who pulled out of the fight.

Dawson was set to fight Stipe Drews in an eliminator, but Drews pulled out. Adamek then allowed Dawson to get the shot directly, a bold and gracious move on his part.

Dawson won the title and tried to fight Tarver, settled for Diaconu, who got hurt, tried for Tarver again and got another meaningless defense, tried for Tarver again and got Glen Johnson, and now finally is getting Tarver.

TV rules the roost, and Showtime -- and almost all fans -- prefer Dawson vs. Tarver over Dawson vs. Diaconu. It really is that simple.

I don't blame Diaconu for taking one soft touch, if he wants. But his fight after that better be against Johnson, Henry or the winner of Tarver/Dawson, or else someone who at least is more viable than Branco.

Tarver fought Santiago after he lost to Hopkins and before he beat Woods. It was just a warm up fight. And if I'm not mistaken Dawson fought Mendoza on 2 weeks notice AFTER DIACONU PULLED OUT OF THERE FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!

get your facts straight Tarver fought Santiago after he fought Elvir Muriqi

and Dawson also fought 19-4 Jesus Ruiz in his first defence of the WBC title!!

Because Branco is a 41 year old never was and Tarver is a 40 old title holder that is top 5 in his division aqnd was the undisputed champion 2 years ago.

Branco vs Diaconu maybe more exciting then Tarver vs Dawson but it doesn't MEAN anything. It's a useless fight.

It's called a tune up fight. For a guy that was calling out the #2 guy in the division why would he then take a tune up fight??? Dawson turned down the fight for a bigger fight why does Diaconu fight a top 10 guy??? Why not fight Johnson and do a better job then dawson did against him??? What is beating Branco gonna do for his career??? No One outside of Italia really knows the guy and he's not that good either. Why not fight a top 10 guy on American TV and give Dawson no choice to fight him???

when Diaconu earned himself the mandatory spot and offered Dawson the biggest payday in his career up to that point, he probably thought he gave Dawson no choice but to fight him. Diaconu is not that good a fighter, but he definately wanted the fight with Dawson. If Diaconu is such an easy fight for Dawson, why didn't he make a deal to fight Diaconu in August, when they were both available, and then Dawson could have fought Tarver in December.

Diaconu now sees more money in Branco than Johnson and so he is going after Branco. I don't see why that makes him a punk. Its ok for other fighters to chase money fights, buts its not ok for Diaconu? double-standard

You can't put it like this because why didn't Dawson give a rematch to Johnson who wanted it and is fighting a s very shot Tarver who he he is gonna beat and retire one way or the other, and Branco is a top 15 guy and Diaconu alreadt beat a top 10 guy in Henry.

Exactly. If he wants to be in the mix for the winner of Tarver/Dawson, he needs to add a decent scalp to his resume. Branco ain't it.

Diaconu is lucky that the Henry bout was not broadcast on American television, because it would have ruined his reputation among moderate boxing fans who don't watch bouts online.

Diaconu looked like ripe **** in his last fight and needs to amend that performance with something big -- unless he wants to become another Erdei.

He can take one easy fight if he wants, but chances are he won't be next in the pecking order for the winner of Tarver/Dawson. He and his fans need to come to grips with that and place blame where it's actually appropriate, rather than on Dawson or some other scapegoat.

I don't think Diaconu has as high aspirations as you guys think. He is happy to be a WBC champion and will likely try to remain it as long as he can unless a major payday comes his way.

Really? That would be extremely disappointing, especially given the money he has behind him to make a big event in Romania.
