Tough night for toney I think. Tigers relentless attack earns him a points in my opinion. Toneys chin sees him go the distance. Do you agree?
Tiger out hustles him on the inside. Toney would have to fight outside all night, otherwise he loses. Tiger is too much of a force up close and in exchanges.
I can't see for a moment how Toney wins this fight. Pressure, especially intelligent pressure from a guy as tough as Tiger, is exactly how you beat him. I can't imagine a scenario where Toney is a winner here. Unless the judges go full-on Tiberi again.
Toney takes terrific head shots---but I sure don't think he takes it to the breadbasket too well. I think he gladly gives his head in order to avoid the bodywork. I think he gets hit with 15 body punches a round against this guy. After like 4 rounds, he goes into a defensive shell and plays the coverup game. And a single counter right hand will not win rounds against a Dick Tiger. So I like Tiger by a fairly wide margin on the scorecards.
No, no it's not. Ask Iran Barkley or Vasilly Jirov. Speed and denying the counter punch is how you beat him. And hope he shows up fat.
I certainly wouldn't use those two as any barometer of how to apply intelligent pressure against the likes of Tonay. They both led with their faces. Whole different ballgame with someone like Tiger. Or a Lamotta, that type.
Henry Hank vs Dick Tiger is a much more apt showing of how this fantasy bout could go, rather than Toney vs Barkley or Jirov.
Tiger has never been dropped at middleweight only at age 38 to Foster who outweighed him and outsized him massively so that needs to be taken into consideration regarding this bout. Giardello won via his jab and moving about, likewise with Griffith with outboxing Tiger on the outside. Though do remember Tiger was 36 when he lost the middleweight crown. No point of out-slugging Tiger, one of the most physically strongest middleweights ATG's out there. I don't see Toney winning this match on a UD.
