I'd like to see it as well. Distance fight for sure. The outcome likely rests where the bout is held and who the judges are.
Hi Buddy. Off piste : About 50 years ago, I had some magazines Boxania Review shipped from America, they were written by Harry Pegg, and were in black and white, and of a glossy print, lots of great articles about the turn of the century boxers, and one particular edition the main story was about Ketchell, inside there were fabulous photos of Ketchell and some of his challenges, Papke, Thomas, etc, the one that stood out amongst all the great pics there was one of him and O'Brien, Jack was standing on a old scale where you slide weights across to determine a person's weight,to the left of him was Ketchell, hand on hips, looking relaxed and at the same time meanincing , apparently he had pink shorts on, it was before their second fight, as we know Jack was dismissed with ease, so the front cover pic was the one in your avatar, I duly cut out the photo, had it enlarged, and it hung on my bedroom wall, until I moved out to get married. Tiger on points. stay safe Romero, chat soon.
Tough one. Tiger was one hell of a fighter and wins over Fullmer, Giardello, Webb , Rubin Carter are super impressive but Lamotta´s peak was before he was champion. He beat Robinson (admittedly a welter at the time) and ran him close in other bouts, wins over Jose Basora, Tommy Bell, Bob Satterfield (a puncher at heavyweight), Tony Janiro amongst others are equally impressive. Lamotta was very fast, I think he could win a very tight decision in a cracking contest.
For a few years, 1960-63, Tiger terrorized the division. I don't think LaMotta was ever quite as good at middleweight as Tiger at his peak.
Tiger's probably the toughest middleweight ever, and one of the physically strongest as well. I'd favour Tiger, but I can see Lamotta exploiting Tiger's (mediocre?) footwork to his advantage. Maybe Tiger gets a 2-1 in a Trilogy against Jake. Give Jake a bit of booze, though, and you just might get murder in the ring.
I feel Tiger is more beatable by the right kind of fighter than LaMotta but LaMotta isn't that guy. They're both looking to go nose to nose and slug. Tiger was extremely tough and extremely hard hitting. He's not the dude you want to exchange with if you can help it. So yeah, I'll take Tiger.
For anyone who wants to see Tiger in action here are some extended highlights. This content is protected
