I'd pick Tiger. I think that it's harder to make him go away, I think the power Tiger has won't matter that much because of LaMotta's superior jaw, but Tiger just literally won't care about what's coming his way. I only hesitate because of the Jake jab, but I think Tiger out-monsters LaMotta late to take a clear fifteen round decision.
The thing about Tiger is he's like a bulldozer, and knowing that LaMotta isn't really defense first I don't think he could get the decision, his jab was nice enough to give some doubt, but like what I said before, Tiger would eat everything you give and slug it out.
Hi Buddy. Excellent synopsis of a most intriguing matchup, as to the winner, I would also favour Tiger, but feel for long stretches in the early to mid rounds LaMotta would be a handful, as you quite rightly state his jab was a formidable weapon in his arsenal, kudos for recognizing such, lots only see him as a brawler, not the case, at times he out jabbed Robinson, no mean feat, that said the last third of a 15 rounder would put a huge strain on Jakes reserves, the monumental effort that he went through to get down to 160 would eventually take its toll, I wouldn't rule a late stoppage ala Robinson, of course still on his feet but the ref showing compassion, fighting Tiger must have been as tough mentally as it most certainly was physically, what your presented with is a stoic, strong, and insanely implacable adversary, seemingly impervious to punishment, sure he could be outboxed by staying on the outside, but it was a brave or stupid fighter that bore down on him, and entered his domain, not the biggest hitter, not a fleet footed boxer, but a dour, tough middleweight, that would give all the greats a restless night's sleep, the day before the fight. stay safe buddy, chat soon.
I think LaMotta, see, LaMotta got jabbed on a lot but the punches you want to counter are everything else… that was his game, Tiger got in to fight and that’s what Jake wants, he wants a guy who throws planted shots hard hooks, rights etc.
Great match up and a fight that’s Dick Tiger’s fight to win, especially when it comes to a slugging match. Tiger had more trouble with fighters that used a lot of movement, which was not LaMottas style at all. LaMotta most likely sees the final bell but he’ll be battered and bloodied up although he puts up an admirable effort against Tiger. I see this as a lopsided decision win for the Nigerian monster.
Tiger is 5'8 with a 71 inch reach, record ,,60-19-3 with 27 ko's,, funny I thought he had more. He had wins over Fulmer twice and a draw . Beat Rubin Carter Joey Giardello twice , he also lost to him twice. and 2L's to Emile Griffth and of course his loss to Foster and had wins over Jose Torres and Benvenuti . Jake was 5'8 with a 67 inch reach , record 83-19-4 with 30 ko's He fought Robinson 6 times with 1 win though many say he should have had another, Zivic 4 times with 3 wins, He beat Marcel Cerdan , Bert Lytell, Holman Williams and Bob Satterfield, Lost to Lloyd Marshall After consideration I'll take LaMotta to win a close decision at 160 pounds ,I'd favor Tiger by far at 175 , of course in those days guys fought multiple times so they'd probably split with a rematch.
If somebody could convince LaMotta to fight like Sugar Ray Leonard he could win. But I can't see LaMotta outslugging Tiger. DT was literally only good at bulldozing guys and it feels to me that Jake is playing his game.
A 3 fight series would see a 2 wins 1 loss result. Question is who gets the 2 wins? But neither goes 3-0.
