Like I said on the clone of this thread...Tiger wins a decision in a tough, rough bout. Tiger was stronger, even if Jake had the better chin.

Yeah, Tiger was stronger and faster, and I would say more skilled...more complete than Lamotta....

If LaMotta had more power then I'd go with him but he doesn't so I'll take Tiger by decision in a tough one. Similar to Tiger vs Fullmer only Jake was cagier than Gene which might make it closer.

The prime and dedicated LaMotta was in a league above Gene Fullmer.
To say as some posters have that Dick Tiger was "stronger" than the
rugged Jake LaMotta is not accurate to me. Obvious muscularity as Tiger had doesn't necessarily translate to boxing strength. I cannot see where a peak Tiger would beat a peak Jake LaMotta.! Tiger a rugged fighter after all did lose to a Randy Sandy, Giardello, Joey Archer,Emile Griffith,Rory Calhoun,so he wasn't unbeatable. LaMotta, when it counted was a rugged iron chinned, cagey fighter, who decisions Dick Tiger, both at their bests.

I can't see anything but a close, controversial decision here. LaMotta would be throwing a greater number of punches including some eye-catching combinations while Tiger might land the cleaner punches but only in ones or twos. Depending on the judges, either man could win.

That is not what anyone is referring to when they mention Tiger's strength, I can guarantee you that. His strength shows in his fights, against some of the strongest/most powerful Middleweights of all time.

That said, this is a very difficult matchup to call. Genuine 50/50.

I like Tiger all the way. The always tough LaMotta will go the distance...to a points loss.

A nasty fight .. LaMotta was extremely strong but Tiger might have an edge there and an edge in power ... Jake had a bit more over all game , would be busier and could outpoint him ... overdone by the film Raging Bull is the fact that LaMotta was not simply a brawler but a fine combination puncher and quite tricky ... this could go either way but Jake might squeeze out a decision by being busier ... a very close fight ...

Respectfully wrong EB. Do you think any middleweight Dick Tiger fought, could dish out the power of a LH Bob Satterfield, who was one of the HARDEST punchers in LH history ? Well in 1946 Satterfield unloaded on LaMotta, but the iron chinned LaMotta stormed through those punches and kod Satterfield in 1946. LaMotta also fought Lloyd Marshall, also a LH puncher. Also to say Dick Tiger fought against,"some of the,strongest/most powerful middleweights in history", is I think hyperbole.
LaMotta and Tiger were great fighters, but not in my top 10 middleweight fighters...Cheers.

Tiger fought, out-muscled, and out-slugged the likes of Fullmer, Hank, Fernandez, Carter, and Lt. Heavyweight Jose Torres. I don't think any fighter has been more proven as an effective brawler than Tiger, especially at Middleweight. Again, there are other reasons, strength notwithstanding, that I see this matchup being anything but cut and dry.

I don't think LaMotta has the ability to put enough hurt on Tiger to force a stall.

His chin, toughness, AND strength would be enough to maybe edge Dick in a head to head firefight, but, usually, when two similar styles collide, pick the guy with options.

And I disagree that LaMotta is far an away ahead of Fullmer as a rugged strong man. I think Fullmer proved against Robinson he was every bit as good at mauling and brawling.

He got a 36 year old Ray Robinson though. And he did not do very well in their 2nd and 3rd fights.
