You can show some Kelly Pavlik knockouts as well. Every fighter has some knockouts the point. The point is Dick Tiger has a low ko ratio. Kelly Pavlik has a higher one.
What about the opposition fought though? Pavlik has three stoppage wins over top 10 ranked opposition, Jermain Taylor, Edison Miranda and Marco Rubio. Other victims include Fulgencio Zuniga, Gary Lockett, Jose Luis Zertuche and Bronco McKart. None of them were exactly iron-chinned or known for great defense. I would be more impressed if Pavlik had KO wins over names like Bernard Hopkins, Glen Johnson, Librado Andrade, Arthur Abraham... I'm sure there are a lot of boxers with better knockout records than Dick Tiger but this doesn't necessarily mean they hit harder. It's tough to criticize Tiger for not landing a knockout blow on fighters like Joey Giardello, Holley Mims, Henry Hank, Jose Torres, Nino Benvenuti. I doubt Pavlik would either.
So only becoming a world champion means something? How many fighters has Pavlik beaten that were world champions? So how come he has clean KO wins over proven iron chinned fighters like Rocky Rivero and Jose Gonzales? The same way he beats every fighter that has ever come to him or stood in front him: with his strength and vastly superior infighting/counterpunching skills.
Wow! This reminds me of the time when one of the monkeys at Longleat safari park 'escaped' into the Lion enclosure with hilarious consequences!
Cute point until you realize most of you pick fighters from the past to beat modern fighters because of your daddies told you they were great. Rocky Rivero and Jose Gonzales? 2 unknown latino fighters and you bring these fighters up to prove your point? Kelly Pavlik beats black fighters. Dick Tiger beats mexicans and puerto ricans. I know it is a great insult to say anything about the great latino and mexican race but beating a mexican or a puerto rican proves jack Name some black fighters who he beat who are known
Pavlik is a good fighter ,but his come in ,let it all hangout aproach would be fistic suicide against Richard Ihetu, he gets thoroughly chastised and stopped in around the 10th ,it could be a ruination fight for him imo.
I wont say Pavlik beats Tiger. I will say Pavlik is a dangerous puncher and when he is on his game, dangerous for any middleweight. I know Hopkins made Pavlik look real bad but Hopkins has that type of style. Hopkins could possibly make Tiger look bad as well. I remember Tiger real good. He was a very strong, durable fighter. I remember one day I was watching him train. His trainer was Chickie Ferrara. Tiger was on the speed bag and Chickie gave him a swig of water and told him something. At the end of the speed bag session Tiger spit out the water. I asked Chickie what that was all about. Chickie said, " With water in your mouth, you can only breathe thru your nose, it trains he fighter not to breath thru the mouth because an open mouth when hit, could result in a broken jaw. Just thought fight fans would find that interesting. Anyway, good as Tiger was, I think Pavlik would compete real good with him. Lets not sell Pavlik short.
Neither of them were "unknown." They were both rated contenders at one point and popular attractions at Madison Square Garden. Is that supposed to matter? Neither Rivero or Gonzales were Mexican. Rubin Carter Henry Hank Spider Webb Yolande Pompey Ace Armstrong (three times) Holly Mims
Apparently, beating a Puerto Rican never means anything - even if he happens to be the universal light-heavyweight champion of the world.
John Ruiz had the belt as well so is he great? The best fighters are always white or black period so take your pretend laughs some place else. Ask the average boxing fan who Spider Webb is and I bet they wouldnt know. Rubin Carter is only known because of that crappy movie and the fact he was a murderer. Ace Armstrong doesnt know who Ace Armstrong is. Pavlik beat Taylor 2 times, who beat Hopkins 2 times. That is more impressive than anything Dick Tiger did in his career.
