IMO, this one of the best Mythical Matchups in middleweight history. You have a one guy (Tiger) who battered any fighter who stood in front and traded with him versus another guy (Valdez) who destroyed anyone who came straight at him. Who wins?
I think I'd agree with you and take Valdez in an upset. I think there's an argument to be made that no middleweight in history could win a firefight with Valdez.
To say he's underrated is an understatement at this point as well as left out of alot of matches like this when considering great MWC
Tiger is a level above Valdez for mine. There may or may not be one or two middleweights in history that would beat him trading. He could even be the GOAT middle in this sort of fight. Both take a great whack and i'd take Tiger to win a clearcut decision.
Found this: Super Human Power lost to D**K Tiger in 1954 in his first & only fight, proving that Tiger was the strongest MWC of AT: Super Human Power 1954-07-18 Dick Tiger 8 3 0 Rex Cinema Hall, Aba L in 8rounds on PTS Rex Cinema Hall, Aba L PTS
Valdez was more fluid overall with slicker upper body movement and the harder one-shot puncher; Tiger bigger and stronger with quicker hands, a more powerful base and the better inside fighter. Both with amazing chins and both very accurate counter-punchers, but I'd give Tiger the edge in both departments, more so in the way of punch resistance. One of the all time great fights at the weight imo, but I agree with John as usual. Tiger by closeish but clear decision in a brutal fight with shades of the Hank fight about it. Just unbeatable in this type of fight, for me, even against a monster like Valdez.
IMO would have been a war! One of those few fights that I'd pay for ringside! Sadly, Dick was not given his due opportunity to display his wares until he was much older and Rodrigo, turning pro at age 16 in 1962, labored in South America for almost 10 years before coming to the US to show his meddle. That being said, it would have been many numbing shots landed from both sides. It would have been a great one!!!
Dick Tiger was almost unbeatable against fighters who came to him . Always aggressive, but skilled aggression . DT arguably holds the top position of Africa finest fighter. Tiger would come to Valdez however Valdez would trade and the key to beating Tiger was movement and you don't trade with Tiger and win. Valdez was skilled but not mobile. Tiger on pts.
Africa's greatest would be my pick. Cagey, tricky types could pose him problems, which does not describe Valdes. Tiger's immense strength and counter punching were formidable assets.
