If Tiger fought in the 1940s middleweight division and had to run the gauntlet against the row, how would he fare against: Burley Williams Marshall Bivins Booker Lytell Wade Chase Cocoa Kid Moore Charles What would Tiger's final results look like?
Some really good fights here. Good thread, mate. I'm thinking Tiger takes decisions over Wade, Chase and Booker. He just brings a bit too much for them IMO. Whether it's his strength, class or size (or maybe all three, but I doubt it) he probably has the goods to deal with these guys. Burley and Marshall are bad styles for Tiger IMO, their out-boxing should work well vs Tiger. However, Cocoa Kid is definitely too small IMO. I'm not sure how Williams fights, but I'd probably say he's a greater MW. I'd rather leave this one TBH. Tiger probably beats Moore, Bivins and Charles at 160 (all on points), but I wouldn't rule out Archie or Ezz beating him. All three knock Tiger out at 175, though. My favourite fight here is without question the Lytell fight. It's no doubt a war, and the 'southpaw Greb' is gonna give Tiger plenty to think about and I think their styles would make it a war. Tiger's mong strength and harder punch would probably make the difference in a split decision. I wish there was film of Lytell.
I don't think he would do very well at all. They kind of defined, as a group, the exact type of fighter that Tiger had a miserable time with. Not that he couldn't beat tricky box-movers with a defensive bent, but he tended to struggle with the very best - to the degree that some guys who weren't naturals changed styles and troubled him.
Maybe Greb? Robinson could probably do it if he caught them whilst they were MWs. Yeah, I think Carlos could beat them whilst all MWs. I don't think Hagler would, his luck with judges and problems with slick fighters mean he's probably gonna pick up a loss.
