How does the big Stripey Dong do against these MW/160 opponents? Rodrigo Valdez Bennie Briscoe Tony Zale Stanley Ketchel Carmen Basilio Mickey Walker Billy Papke
If Rocky Valdez didn't box...and I know he was capable of being clever...just watch any of his bouts with Briscoe...he had a clever, catlike repertoire of moves when it was necessary...of course, based on the opponent's style. He would have to fight that way vs Tiger. He would have probably benefitted in getting some coaching from not only Gil Clancy, but more importantly, from his stable mate Emile Griffith.
I agree with this, good post pal. I think Rigo's feet aren't exactly lightning though, Tiger would be able to tag him quite easily imo. Great fight
I would pick Valdez over him. Walker possibly. Briscoe would be like like the Hank fight. A barn burner but Tiger taking most of the rds. Ketchel probably doesnt have the skills but lasts the distance and loses a UD. Basilio too small probably gets worn down and stopped on a TKO. Papke not skilled enough. TKO loss. Zale loses a very competitive decision.
Rodrigo Valdes was a very good boxer, tight defense, had quickness, and had a big right hand. I saw the Valdes vs Briscoe fight live on ABC's Wide World Of Sports. Keith Jackson was commentating the vacant WBC Middleweight Title bout from Monte Carlo, Monaco, that right hand put Bad Bennie down for the full ten count.
I was sooo impressed by Valdez vs Briscoe 2...anyone coming in the room "whilst" I was there watching that fight was going on was probably troubled by seeing me with my jaw hanging open, all agape...at what I was seeing in this fight.
