I've been reading a bot about the career of an Omaha heavyweight from the 90's named Dicky Ryan .. seems to have had an interesting career .. a decent journeyman who fought some top guys and always came to fight .. any word on his whereabouts today ? Info on him seems to vanish after 2007 or so ...
I remember Ryan. A good, really tough journeyman heavyweight, won the fights he should have and lost the ones he should. His greatest achievement was ending the winnng streak of fat Danish heavyweight Brain Neilsen at 49-0. If I recall, he basically out lasted Neilsen, who exhausted himself punching on Ryan, whom he found so easy to hit. At he end of his career he was thrown to wolves, matching him with Shannon Briggs and H. Rahman. Ryan had a good career and was a credit the boxing game.
Saw him once against Mike the giant White. entertaining match and Ryan seemed game. Never could understand why he had so many NC's though.
The Nielson fight was a total circus. I highly recommend watching it for a good laugh. One of the funniest things Ive ever seen in boxing was watching Nielson try to roll out of the ring and his fans pushing his corpulent, semi concious ass back into the ring.
I love it. You really get a sense that had Nielson dropped dead those fans would have tried to prop him up and insist he was still alive just so they could have awarded him the victory to break Rocky's record.
