Did '86 Iron Mike generate the same level of buzz Deontay Wilder is right now?

No! Nobody has even come close to the level of popularity/buzz that Tyson had in his prime or even on his way up for that matter. I think the only guy that even comes close is Oscar but thats about it.

Most people can't name one heavyweight lol. Most people have never heard of Wilder.

What buzz? Nobody knows him. Once he gets his ass knocked out and relegated to gatekeeper status no one will remember him. well, some of the delusional folks will.

Tyson was filling a gap in the HW division that Holmes left.
Wilder is going to fill the void left by Tyson.

In 2 years time Wilder will be huge, and he will do it the good ole fashioned way, by kicking ass while making jokes.
Tyson Fury will likely also be a future big star in the division. People like a boxer who can hold their own plus is personable with visual and audio appeal.
Both Wilder and Fury have this combination while neither of the Klitscho do.

Not that old, he was all over the TV from the time I was 6 to 14.
Would Deontay be interviewed by Barbara Walters, I think not.

Let me put it this way...retired, non fighting, non title belt holding Tyson is still creating more buzz than Wilder.

    No

but if the Klitschkos had been born in murica (and preferably black) they would have had it

Mike was for real. Wilder looks unco-ordinated and a disaster waiting to happen.

a lot of tysons early fights were shown on delay on free to air itv world of sport.
this was really rare as only world title fights or british fights were shown at the time

with only 3 channels back then that would have meant around 10 million uk viewers
by the time tyson fought berbick most uk sports fans would know who he was.

there was no ppv channels at all in the uk then , mega fights like hagler v hearns were shown at a few cinemas on closed circet tv $15 from memory

due to ppv there is hardly a fighter in america or uk well known to the general public

germany gets huge numbers 10 million plus for a wlad fight

wilders fight with dulhaupus was shown on a little known channel called spike on a weeks delay with a 30k audience (guess) to put it in perspective to tyson numbers.

Buzzing flies around his stiff carcass, maybe. I want to see him fight somebody good. Jennings, Povetkin ... hell, even Pulev might be fun.

The time of a peak Tyson was very simple and straight forward

No planning for legacy, no talk of legacy and how i would like to be remembered. It was just plain and simple destroy each and everything that stood in the way. Bring anyone in here and il f him up.
