Did Adrien Broner peak at the Maidana fight?

:thinkHe fought pretty well up until that fight and even during that fight. We saw him knocked down twice and get his jaw broken and finished the fight on his feet. It was and still is the best fight he has ever had.

Now he seems content with just milking his name and fighting like turds even against bums. I hope he quits if he comes out this Saturday and fights like he did against Porter. I want to see his opponent bring it to him like Rene did and want to see Broner fight like a man again.

But really did he peak professionally during that fight?
    Is Broner damaged goods?
    :think

Well he'd kind of already lost to Quintero, De Leon and Paulie first, so no he was on the downswing at that point.

Damn. Maybe slugging is up his alley. He did good being Adrien and not Floyd when things got rough.

No he was always a bum.

He was picked out by his promoter and TV companies because they saw how much an arrogant black yank who beats up women can make them with Mayweather if carefully maneuvered. It just turned out Broner was even more garbage than first thought.

He's like a Brandon Rios type. Flash of the pan and did well for about a year or year and a half when burst on the scene. Then they moved up in quality of opponent and weight class and lived off their further distancing successes.

I'd say Broner's peak would have to include his best victory over Antonio DeMarco at 135. Steep and dramatic fall after that. The writing was all over the wall that he would not be able to handle Maidana. But many people both overrated Broner and underrated Maidana going into that fight.

You mean you personally feel he lost to those three guys.

Quintero fight was when Broner was 19 years old. The Quintero and Ponce fights happened before he achieved a divisional ranking and fought most of the top 10 ranked opponents that he did fight. So that is not a good argument for his career being on the downswing unless you're insinuating that he peaked when he was 18 years old fighting 4 rounders.

While I scored the Paulie fight a draw, there is no denying that the majority of respectable posters on this site, those in the media, and fellow boxers/trainers scored for Broner and most of the 10 or so posters that are most respected and have been around since before I have all discussed in the following days how the real robbery would have been if Paulie was declared victorious.

One must acknowledge consensus opinion to some degree, even if they disagree with it.

I agree with Smoak in that the DeMarco fight was probably Broner's peak. Broner showed good heart in the Maidana fight to get through the rough spots and go the distance, but in terms of his actual fighting he wasn't sharp. And of course, Welterweight isn't a good weight for Broner either.

I'm guessing any time you don't agree with me?

    Word.

Annoyance from that post would surely come from disagreeing with something or perhaps not having a sound response. What did I say that got you sad?

You come across as very nitpicky and persnickety sometimes....when its pretty clear I'm making somewhat of a generalization alluding to Broner being somewhat overrated before he ever got to Maidana. And here you come and try to dissect everything I wrote, regardless of what the judges said Paulie exposed to a certain extent and at the very least he deserved a draw.

Uh, no. Anyone who scored Broner/de Leon or Quintero for Broner doesn't know how to score a fight, simple.
