April 2008, i had just moved to Korea u are correct, i didnt have any kids and i had 2 months off before i started working over there, sorry, i should have run that by you before i left Aus, just to make sure it was ok with you first. scared of a spar? i would've thought it was really common. i can't count the number of blokes i've seen come to the gym, look great on the bag, pads, shadow etc and when they do eventually move around one solid session and you never see them again.

i agree that sparing should be about learning and it can mostly work that way when its blokes within the same gym but what about when you get blokes come in from other gyms to spar - the coined term is gym wars - i've seen blokes scared to be in those spars - i was at the big gym in blackburn a few years ago when the vic amateur champion asked to be pulled out after his first round with prad singh. i'd seen this kid spar hundreds of rounds but there was no doubt that on this night he bottled it.
