Indeed. Regarding the Ward/Kovalev thing, I did tend to favor Ward in both their bouts. Not massively, mind - I really didn't have a dog in that race. But, either way - there's a lot of messiness surrounding some of his biggest fights.
I remember that. I also heard that ward "broke" him at the staredown. He said to Chad "I heard you got dropped in sparring" Chad's shoulders went down and he sighed. Andre knew with the problems in his training camp and that at his most comfortable weight class, he just knew he had him beat
Whom else who beat him soundly at every distance and aspect of the game in an entertaining though one-sided fight does he refer to as boring every time he utters his name?
I guess so,he also looked terrible vs Lampkin, but I think the weight cut from Leonard 2,plus the worn out from the fact he already had 70-ish fights and going up in weight definitely changed him.
You think that might be part of why? Seriously, I personally haven't heard him bad mouth any other opponent, but every time Ward's name comes up he has to say something about what a boring fighter he was.
Don't be rude and have reality mess up a good narrative. Ward is the villain here for defending his title at the weight he held it at. Don't let facts obscure that.
Dawson wanted a catchweight fight Ward's team refused as already pointed out by @Man_Machine So Ward made sure to have every advantage kind of like Mayweather in his catchweight fights. But I suppose that's also Dawsons fault for accepting it, I still think the win has a bit of an asterisk over it though considering how poor Dawson looked because he was drained. Here's an article with Dawson talking about it. https://www.boxing247.com/boxing-ne...ht-at-170-lb-catchweight-but-they-said-no/788
Dawson in his post-fight interview after beating Hopkins (@ the 1:03:50 mark of the below vid): "I would love a fight w/ Andre Ward ... I can make 168, or we can do it @175, catchweight. It doesn't matter to me." It was Ward who was challenged by Dawson, & he agreed to terms that Dawson himself advocated. If anything, Ward took an unnecessary risk by allowing his title to be on the line when he could've agreed to fight just a lb or 2 over the limit. This content is protected
I don't know why you're being so picky over this it's quite simple Dawson had been a Light Heavyweight for over 7 years he hadn't made the Super Middleweight limit since he was in his early 20s and clearly he'd outgrown the division. Dawson wanted the fight at 175 or catchweight Ward's team said no hence the fight took place with Dawson being drained and far from his best. Was it Dawson's fault for agreeing to the terms ? yes i've already said that. But Ward also made sure he had every clear advantage by draining Dawson who was very poor in the fight hence the win has an asterisk over it. How did Ward take an unnecessary risk ? he made sure he had all the cards stacked in his favour if anything Dawson took the unnecessary risk draining himself at 168 in which turned out to be a huge mistake. Dawson was having huge problems making 168 and there was all types of worrying signs in the lead up to the fight like Dawson being flattened by Miranda in sparring just weeks before the fight.
