Did Andre Ward ruin fighters?

    Even if we were to assume Dawson's promotional rhetoric, during a post-fight interview, as advocacy of a Ward bout at 168, Dawson's comments would have to be viewed as having ‘advocated’ the bout at both 175 and a catchweight, as well.

    But, either way, Dawson's comments do not constitute contractual negotiations and the main point is ‘Team Andre’ wouldn’t budge, when a catchweight was subsequently sought by Dawson.

    He ruined a lot of fans when he beat Kovalev twice.

    Some of them still haven’t recovered.

    To many in today’s world, ‘calling out’ someone has the promotional weight of an offer, lol.

    (Of course they usually actually want the other guy’s promotional team to make them a huge offer — funny how rarely their own promoters put together a package to offer the guy they’re calling out.)
