Joe did used to pull out of a lot of fights and was called ' sick note' by one of the magazines. Most of Joes problems were hand related, he touches on this subject in his book saying his Dad used to tape his hands but as he was nervous his hands would shake and the wraps were not right, towards the end Dean Powell took over doing the wraps. At one point Frank Warren suggested Joe using George Francis as a trainer plus he was regarded as an expert with the hand wraps, dealing in the past with boxers such as Conteh who had fragile hands, McGuigan got George to do his hands for the Pedroza fight. Virtually all Joes problems were hand related , maybe the problems bandaging the hands in the past may of attributed to Joes various cancelled fights
