Did any other fighters use a 300lbs punching bag?

Fraziers gym had a bag that I believe was 250 lb.
Joe could punch a hole in that making it move up in the air about 2 feet
I'll never forget it ..simply amazing to see in person

Foremans rt to the body where he kept his hand flat was one of the most brutal shots in history. It destroyed Bert Cooper and took all Cooneys strength.

I used to do dynamite extensions on a 4x4 stud in the exposed wall of my gym. No one made that thing budge. I win.

You can, but as I understand it, they are only marketed to kick boxers!

Marciano is the one who is famous for hitting a 300lb bag but I'm pretty sure there are a handful of other top fighters who've used bulked up heavybags. Even when I was boxing, there was a gym I went to for a bit that had a 250-300lb bag. I liked it hitting it, good workout and good way to put hard punches together without the bag swinging around too much. Bags under 100lbs aren't much good for punching with any force (even one or two punches at a time), they tend to fly around. Bags around 120lbs are ideal for the mix for resistance and still move pretty easily when hit. The 250-300lb bags are good to use when trying to get a workout in when you're looking to throw hard punches in combination with close to full resistance in return.

Louis54 raised a good point about them being good if the bag isn't too hard. I believe that is true with heavybags in general. Whenever I've hurt my hands it was due to the hardness of the bag, not the weight of the bag.

Was Joe still fighting then or was it after retirement?

1991...and I'm editing in he did it bare fisted with a suit on as he was leaving the gym but stopped to correct a Tysonesc HW from New Orleans the finer points of throwing the LH.

Then why do so few elite heavyweights use such a monstrosity? Maybe you should direct your wisdom toward them.

You're contradicting yourself here. They don't use it but I am pretending to question their methods because of this?

Retreat, compose and come back with something more sensible.

You're not helping your cause. You message is now more muddled than ever.

Retreat, compose, return. I suggest meditation.

But the resistance only comes at the point of impact. Why exactly would that increase punching power?

But if it were truly obvious that working out on 300 pound bags would increase power, wouldn't we expect many, many more boxers to use such bags more frequently (if not exclusively)? Wouldn't any decent trainer insist on it?

This. Having someone hold the bag makes all of the difference.

It was stated pretty clear wasn't it?

Some fighters prefer a heavy bag, some don't. Horses for courses etc..

You personally don't use that but seeing as you have no pro record to speak of and you haven't weighed the heavy bags of every top rated fighter you actually are only speculating anyway.

Not a real big deal either way I'd've thought.
