Did anybody watch the Antonio Margarito fight on the 8/5/2010

Yeh I saw the fight. You could say he was rusty but he has never been the most fluid fighter. The general concensous is that his power doesn't go with him to Light Middle, and you can never really tell whether he has natural power in the first place.

His next fight will probably be a rematch with Cotto, unless Pacquiao becomes avalible. Could even be him agaisnt Ryan Rhodes.

btw the PPV numbers for this fight in the US were apparently terrible. Less than 15,000 buys.

 

He looked controlled, he was boxing more than his usual stalking. It was an ok performance, but between the shots he took from Cotto and the punishment he took from Mosley, he's looking pretty shop worn.

He was never a big puncher, relying on accumulation and body work to take guys out, so the 12 round distance always suited him. But at LMW, facing bigger, stronger guys who are faster, punch harder and can stand with him, I can't see him doing so well.

Basically, he looks like he always did: plodding, high-workrate, slow hands - but less indestructible than he once seemed.

 

As for the ban, as I understand it, he was only banned by US organisations but for the sake of PR he didnt want to box anywhere while the ban was in place.

I read though that if he wants to box in the US again then they could potentially re-open the case before granting him a licence. There's a suggestion that the investigation was rushed last time in order to get a sentence out. If they were to reopen it then there are concerns that more details could come out (presumbaly, but this is just my assumption, linking to other fights rather than just the Mosely fight). So his team are wary of fighting in the US again.

So he's likely to keep boxing in South America now.

 

Mexico's in North America. South America's places like Brazil and Colombia. I doubt he'll be doing much fighting there.

 

You know what I mean, I was using the term loosely to differentiate it from USA.

He did seem more cautious and he hardly got tagged. Even though his opponent was the definition of average you would still expect him to have some success against Margs questionable defence.

The power as mentioned previously, is just not present at 154.

Even though he is a cheating ****....I would love to see the Cotto-Marg rematch. Loaded gloves or not, the first fight was amazing.

It's hard to say when Margo started using pads. Some think it was after the Williams fight where he was favourite to win but couldn't get the job done. I'm not sure.

He was never a very hard puncher till that point, but he could dig, especially to the body.

 

i think the way he seemed to smile at his opponents when they hit him with their best shots and having that crazy look in his eyes was more damaging, knowing you have been hitting someone flush with your best shots and he appears to be loving it!! ( not so much against mosley though) must have taken it's toll mentally and with the constant punches coming it must have just drained everything out of them

 

Margarito fought uncharacteristically cute, even doing a bit of showboating.

Garcia has absolutely crushing power, but has some of the slowest footwork and punch delivery in the sport.

Margarito was exceedingly careful, and basically broke his mold by counterpunching all night. Garcia kept encouraging him to trade and Margarito all but stuck his tongue out at him. Come to think of it, he may have done just that.

 

Margocheato is in Vegas this Friday to apply for a licence.He is scheduled to fight either Pacman in November(providing Mayweather fight is off) or December in Vegas against Cotto.:good
