Did anyone actually think Jones was going to win?

Or was it just wishful thinking and people trying to convince themselves that it would happen?

This fight, to borrow a quote from Emmanuel Steward, "turned out exactly the way I thought it would"

There was no logical way that Jones could win this fight outside of landing a one in a million Hail Mary shot and scoring a stoppage which is made all the more unlikely by the fact that Joe has never been seriously hurt or close to getting stopped. There was no way he could keep up with Joe's workrate physically and stylistically no way he could get Joe out of his gameplan.

I think most of these predictions were based upon people picking with their heart and not their head. A select few were just flat out delusional (I'm talking about a pair of inidividuals living in their fantasy world who scored the fight 114-113 for Jones :rofl:rofl:rofl)

Predictably though, a lot of the people who picked Jones to win by KO are the ones saying Joe is garbage and didn't do anything

The only people convinced that Jones would win or was even a worthy opponent at this stage were either Jones nuthuggers or Calzaghe nuthuggers. The Jones nuthuggers were desperately clinging to any hope they could muster without taking into account how shot the man was. The Calzaghe nuthuggers were acting as if Jones was still a worthy opponent so they could boast afterwards about Joe's greatness.

I thought Jones could score an early TKO, based on Calzaghe's tendency to be reckless early on in fights.

Yeah, a lot of people picked Jones to win. Then after Jones got his ass kicked and humilaited, they changed their tune quickly.

I think Hopkins beating Pavlik helped influence many peoples decision. Just seeing how well Hopkins performed at a much older age than Jones. And Jones claiming he was is the best shape he has been in years. That and people claiming how the styles match up in favor of Jones- Jones being power puncher and Calzaghe a "slapper".

I think you left out Calzaghe haters, because you don't necessarily need to be a Jones nuthugger to be a Calzaghe hater.

I personally wanted jones to win, but that was never what I expected. One just needs to look at compubox to see how much he has faded.

Jones had his chance in the first round, and thank goodness we got to see more than just a lucky shot ending things and actually got to witness the both testing eachothers boxing skills........

......we would have never heard the end of it from the Jones fanatics about his greatness......and in the meantime, I have no doubt in my mind that Jones would have milked his lucky punch KO by going back to fight city workers.

I did of course being a Jones fan. I didnt think he would turn back the clock or anything but I kinda underestimated Calzaghe a tad bit but oh well im wrong it happens its not exactly the end of the world he is 40 after all atleast he got a KD and a few good combos out of it. This loss wont mean awhole lot in a few years anyway nothing agianst Joe but it really wont.
