I found it odd Thurman didn't enter with a belt and wasn't announced as a WBA title holder and when he was announced as the winner they said and still undefeated not still WBA champion. I also saw that one of Thurmans guys lifted the belt but two of the production guys in blue shirts had them pull the belt down and off of camera I wonder what that was all about also its funny they did Wlad-Jennings adds as the heavyweight title and then Wilder comes on and says hes the heavyweight champ, imagine the look on the casuals faces, 2 champs?
I did notice that - and that is worrying. I say worrying, because it would suggest that this format believes it is operating outside the normal conventions of this great sport, so that does ring a few alarm bells as to their long term intentions. I also wondered why Broner/Molina was a 12 rounder, because a title of any description was not mentioned once pre or post fight fight.
Al Haymon is trying to get the WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO/WBC/Ring Magazine out of the picture so he can rate fighters with his own organization and control all of boxing. You probably should take some basic business classes or something. Al Haymon is trying to create a COMPLETELY CLOSED system. It will be like the UFC. My guess is he is trying to create his own belt. Deontay Wilder is probably the PBC champ. They are trying to make PBC the main legitimate boxing circuit. The sad thing is it will soon be a monopoly and the only type of boxing watched on TV. Then they will be able to pay the fighters next to nothing to fight on their Main Events. It will be like the UFC, which currently has a class action lawsuit against it because it violated anti-trust rules. If you care about the guys that go in the ring you will not support PBC boxing. Boxers are not smart with money and Haymon has duped them all into thinking "Oh he got that mayweather guy rich, I should sign with him".
thurman is long overdue for a shot at floyd. im thinking haymon doing his best to keep thurman away from floyd
EXACTLY what I have been trying to tell people Al Haymon is trying to create a separate "league of boxing". Fighters in this "League" will only fight each other and no outsiders will be allowed in. Right now the "league" will be strong. Once they age a few years Al haymon goes and finds young C or B level talent and has them beat up all the old guys(C or B level fighters can be signed for less, and since PBC is designed for casuals they won't be able to realize the difference in skill level). These C or B level fighters become the new champs and Haymon has to pay them less and less.
Yep. No belts were shown. Broner's entourage didn't show off his WBC belts either. That's why I said in a thread if Thurman impressed versus Guerrero he would be, perhaps, in line to fight the Floyd/Pacquiao winner for the PBC Welterweight title.
Plain and simple, the belts aren't going to be mentioned solely because Haymon doesn't want to introduce casual fans to the belts. He will introduce his own belts in the near future. This is very bad.
bad for haymon if he thinks he can just change all this history of boxing like that he'll go out of business
Agreed. It's one thing to try to introduce something new, but you can't...and shouldn't try to erase or ignore over 100 years of history and tradition.
I wouldn't write off Hbo just yet. You cannot control boxing like mma, it won't work. To big too complicated too global. As for ignoring the wba I welcome that. Thurman isn't a real champion. Personally I don't care which blood sucking organisation runs the game, dlh, arum or haymon, as long as the best fights are made. Al haymon is making a living ducking the best fights already, he is no saviour imo.
But here is the thing. PBC is designed for CASUALS. Not for hardcore fans who can probably name 1000+ boxers off the top of our heads. These people have never heard of the belts to begin with. They are new fans. He gets the a ton of new fans with this and creates PBC. It is EXACTLY the same as the UFC. I don't know how you folks can be so blind to ignore what he is trying to do....
I actually think it's commendable that this WBA belt wasn't mentioned. It will be interesting to see if Lee's WBO belt is mentioned. They did say, in a promo, that Lee is a MW titleholder.
