Did anyone else notice this in the Berto/Collazo fight?

I'm majorly in agreement with the original post. It's a reason why I think a necessary change for Berto to move forward will be wising up on ring smarts and tactics, because he could have forced a stoppage if he'd kept going to Collazo's body. He should have either been feinting towards the head then going downstairs when Collazo started doing that, or at least jabbing at the head to pile on points while keep his energy, then whacking Collazzo downstairs as soon as he raised his hands again.

Everytime Berto would nail Collazo with a good body shot, Luis would back off and look to counter while getting his breath back. Maybe Berto's corner got caught up in the heat of battle and missed it, but they should've been screaming at him to work the body the whole fight. As far as stamina issues, I think Berto was forced to work harder than he ever has because of Collazo's pressure and the ref forcing the action (a bit strange how the ref went about it but it sure made it fun). I think the pace had more to do with it than Collazo's body punching so Berto needs to get his stamina up, just a bit though.

Overall, Andre was fortunate to get the win, it was a real close fight. I have no doubt he is going to learn quite a bit from this experience and be a better Pro for it. Maybe a change in trainers is needed as I didn't see an effective inside fight game, he had some offense but no defense. At range his D's not bad because he so quick, but inside he's lost, just doesn't know what to do.

Collazo once again got the short-end in a close fight and again looked good doing it. I look forward to him getting a rematch.

Berto deserves a lot of credit for not walking away from a tough fight. It was a new experience for him and he will definitely learn from it. It would be awesome if he could get Mayweather Sr to show him some shoulder roll defense techniques. With Berto's speed and power this would work well for him. Right now he is too open and, as mentioned, relying too much on athletism to avoid getting hit. Collazo is a very good customer, but if he hopes to step in with the Cottos and other good fighters this will be disastrous for him. And he should also adopt using a game plan.

Yeah, Berto should have stayed there. Collazo wasn't liking it to the body at all.

Man, it's amazing that most if not all of the people replying on this thread actually noticed the subtle hints that Collazo displayed that he didn't like getting hit to the body. It's too bad his trainers didn't see this. Heck, even Lou Dibella was motioning to the body late in the fight.

He did that because he was complaining to the referee that it was a kidney shot.

He was definitely hurt to the body. Collazo's arms were glued to his ribs, and he was sticking his chin out and kind of fake clowning so Berto wouldn't pick up on how hurt he was.

Berto better continue to feed off the lower end B level guys for a while, unless he wants to get KTFO.

Yeah, noticed it as soon as it happened. Don't know why he didn't stay to the body, had he kept going there he probably would have stopped Collazo.

Same kind of thing goes for Collazo.. a lot of what he was landing were light shoe shine punches, had he opened up with a hard shot from time to time in between those flurries he probably could've KOed Berto as well.

Good fight, but both guys missed some key opportunities that they had clear infront of them.

Prety good analysis. You don't ever realy see hims stick to a specific gameplan. Usuallly his thing is to somewhat outwork and outland his opponents.

Collazo definitely hit the wall for a couple of the late rounds before recovering a little and i think it was some of Berto's body shots. What a terrific fight

Yup....and got hurt in rd 12 to the body.....but Rd 7 was very noticeable due to his hands going low like he was trying to hide it. But Berto never capitalized on it. I think Berto was cautious for a reason...maybe he respected Luis's power....for what ever reason Andre didn't follow up. And unfortunately I think Berto lost the fight b/c of that hesitation to follow up.

Berto has to be the biggest head hunter in boxing today. I mean his inaccuracy up top against Forbes and Collazo was horrendous. He missed so many haymakers up top. I wonder if his trainers will actually address this flaw or if they will continue to tell him to just "box on the outside and use your speed". The head moves but the body doesn't.
