Did anyone else think Ali vs Patterson II was close?

Thats a good call, he knew he was in control and it was a matter of time. Sometimes there's unnoticed nuances in a fight where one fighter will let the other lead. I recall a fight Duran had when he was much older and had won, after the fight in the interview he said how he took a couple of rounds off mid fight so the other guy could get his punches off so that would open up some opportunities for his counter right. But the announcers were saying Duran looks tired and isn't punching back, age has finally caught up to him. Great fighters think differently than the rest of us.

Straight up facts though, people say Patterson was way too small for heavyweight and stuff, but the difference between Patterson and your average heavyweight in them times was like 15lbs, between fighters then and Fury, the difference is like 4 times what Patterson was to Ali in comparison to what Ali is to Fury

Ali vs. Patterson 2: I had it, I believe (without looking in my files), 4-2 Ali. You weren't alone in your thinking, though. One judge had it even, going into the 7th round.

Excellent write-up! But I rank Patterson's power at least a tier above Ali's (though I agree Ali's is underrated as well).

Ali's shots definitely seemed to be having more effect is I guess what I was saying. Could be about punch resistance at that point in Floyds career too They both have underrated power for sure.

The damaged eye that ended the fight was a souvenir from Charlie “Devil” Green’s roughhouse tactics.
After the weigh in, in his nearby hotel room, Janet, Floyd’s wife, advised him he was blowing his nose too vigorously. He had a cold.
The likelihood is that he did the same between rounds causing the eye to swell.
Being hit by a punch, bashing into the side of a door etc, Fractured eye socket can result. Same as Basilio’s injury against Ray Robinson.

Not close at all. Ali carried him a bit.
