Did anyone else think De La Hoya - Hopkins was a little suspect?

WTF?

DLH going up to fight Hops, the guy who beat Tito(who got a gift against DLH by most accounts), was more interesting than any other fight at the time!

it might have generated interest but how many people really thought oscar could win it?

granted, oscar was going to push boxing into the limelight again with this fight, but don't you think a rematch with tito would have been much more interesting and the outcome too?

EDIT : also, oscar was also changing as a fighter at this point. promotion and profit were becoming more important to him and those great combos he use to throw had all but disappeared.

i think he was his own worst enemy at this time.

 

Personally, DLH/TIto II would have been my first choice, but the question of whether or not DLH woud fare better against Hopkins than Tito did added a lot of interest to this fight!

I'm a DLH fan but I think Oscar went for a easy way out.

 

LMAO... A Light Heavyweight that weighed in 156 lbs. and looked like he could turn on his side and slide under the crack of a closed door. Good one.

 

agreed, but i actually made a lot of money off this fight and remember saying to a mate that oscar might get KO'd for the first time in his career - unfortunately i didn't put money on it though.

who here wouldn't have preferred to see oscar - tito 2?

 

I'm guessing my point went right over your head, but Yeah you're right Hopkins never fought at lt heavy and didn't start his career at that weight

 

No one denies he STARTED there, but what weight did the fight take place at? Both guys were well under 160 and closer to JrMW then MW.

We've seen fighters knocked out with liver shots. When the victim goes down he looks like he can't breath . . .can't move. De La Hoya looked like he was making an effort not to get up. Mixed with the fact that the shot did not look particularly lethal. Mixed with the fact that the fight was about to get interesting. Mixed with the fact that ODLH was focused on selling fights but not necessarily in winning fights throughout the entire decade . . .and I have a VERY difficult time believing there was not something suspect involved in that KO.

 

Oscar quit. BIG TIME. He didn't want a beat down. Anyone who thinks he was an ATG is dreaming.

When you get hit clean with a shot to the liver, hit hurt to breathe, much less move.......DLH was all over the place pounding the canvas........
A liver shot is supposed to leave you paralyzed!
